Lime Cranberry Mocktail

Today we’re sharing a fun Lime Cranberry Mocktail (that means no alchohol) that our kids enjoy. It’s made using a homemade cranberry simple syrup that’s really easy to throw together.

This post goes live on Thanksgiving Day, but regardless of when and where this post finds you, we wish all the best to you and your family. No matter what challenges you currently face, always remember all there is to be thankful for. And remember the joy we can all spread through simple acts of kindness and compassion.  Cheers, Melissa and Greg

Whenever the grownups do enjoy a fruity cocktail, like these Strawberry Thyme Margaritas or these Strawberry Daiquiris, a cry of disapproval always erupts from the kid section. Do you have this problem in your house? Where the grownups can’t seem to splurge on any treat without the kids wanting to get in on the action? And yet when you ask them to share a piece of their Halloween candy you’d think you asked them to part with their favorite toy or stuffed animal buddy. Kids. Impossible not to love them, but it would be nice if Mommy and Daddy could quietly sip a cocktail now and then. The quiet part doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen anytime soon. And not quite understanding the concept of alcohol, they just see a yummy drink and want a version they are allowed to have. Enter the mocktail.

In the past, we have experimented with making simple syrups for use in cocktails and mocktails like this Thyme Simple Syrup. So we thought this would be an interesting thing to try again with cranberries since they are such a strong and distinct flavors. And a perfect idea to test out for the holidays.

Cranberry Mocktail Inspiration

When looking for Cranberry Mocktail and cocktail drink inspiration there were plenty of items to draw from:

  • This festive cranberry fizz looks like a fun mocktail to try out
  • Cranberry Apple Cider Punch from Betty Crocker that contains ginger ale and orange juice
  • Another one for the grown-ups, this holiday mule looks like it would be fun to try

And if you are looking for some festive garnish, try these sugared cranberries from Vanilla and Bean.  They are a perfect addition to your holiday cranberry drinks!  When making our cranberry simple syrup, I put extra cranberries in to pull out before they burst to make the sugared cranberries and left the rest in to flavor the syrup.

Lime Cranberry Mocktail

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 c. sugar
  • several handfuls of cranberries (more if making sugared cranberries)
  • lime seltzer or sparkling water
  • lime and sugared cranberries for garnish

Instructions

    For the simple syrup:
  1. Bring the water and sugar to a boil, stirring to mix in sugar.
  2. Turn heat down to simmer and add cranberries.
  3. Cook until berries burst and start to turn water pink (don't overcook or it will thicken too much)--approximately 5 minutes.
  4. Strain cranberries and smush to release any last juices/color.
  5. Refrigerate.
  6. For the drink:
  7. Add approximately 2 oz. of syrup to glass.
  8. Add ice.
  9. Add seltzer or sparkling water and stir--we use 8-10 oz. per drink, but it depends on how sweet you like your mocktails.
  10. Garnish with lime and sugared cranberries.
