We are at month two of our New Year’s resolutions. How many of you have already given up? Better question is, what makes us quit before we have reached our goal? Is it motivation? Money? Time? Access? Or, all the above? Well as for me, motivation and body negative image plays a big part of fulfilling my goals, but I’m sure all of us have our own challenges to deal with. That is why I will try to solve at least some of them below.
No gym membership and don’t know what to do?
That’s fine, you don’t need one to get in great shape! You can work out anywhere, like me in the photo above; doing push-ups in my back yard. Because I can! For me local gyms are not the best place to work out, mostly because I feel super conscious about the weight I have gained, and I prefer sweating in the privacy of my own home. I have recently discovered ALL Shape UP! That solved at least 80% of my issues when it comes to weight loss.ALL SHAPE UPALL SHAPE UP is a UK based brand/company/online platform that provides over 100 workouts by UK leading personal trainers. Whether you want to be fitter, healthier or slimmer, ASU is there for you. The subscription is super affordable, and it goes as low as $13.27 (yes less than that overpriced Starbucks coffee). You will receive support every step of the way of your fitness journey, not only from ASU, but also from our empowering online member community! I was lucky to get a year subscription and just a week ago I have started my ASU journey. The first step was easy. I put down all my goals and aspirations for this program as well as my eating habits and current weight (its 165lbs). A few days later I was contacted by the founder himself, James Hasling, who went over the program I received, which included my first 4-week program + nutrition. Now, anyone who has gone to the gym knows that after the first day of trying to sell you personalized work out sessions (again super overpriced) you never hear from the trainers again, that is why I was super impressed to have someone cheer me on during my weight loss journey. Not something you would expect from an online platform, but there are actual caring people behind it.
Another fun thing about All Shape Up is the abundance of nutritious and tasty recipes. You can find anything from quick and easy, to family favorites. Even fussy eaters will be satisfied with this one!
The Goal
Before we get into the details about exercises and recipes, it’s important to start off by setting a goal. In this case, my goal is fitting into those “skinny jeans.” But no matter what it is, write down your goal and hang it up somewhere you will see it every day, like your bathroom mirror. This way you will be motivated to stay on track all seven days…and hopefully beyond. I also mark and check my progress on the All Shape Up dashboard regularly and it keeps me going forward.
The Diet Breakdown
The first thing I do every morning (using this plan) is drink a glass of lemon water, then I make myself a Breakfast Smoothie (all recipes are available on the platform). Lunch and dinner will always be a lean meat or a vegetable and a healthy carbohydrate, like sweet potatoes/brown rice. Soups are great too! A snack with protein, like fruit, almonds or Greek yogurt always keeps me going until dinner. Here is the recipe for the breakfast smoothie I listed above:
Ingredients: 1/2 Frozen Banana Handful Blueberries Handful Strawberries 2 tbsp Porridge Oats 1 tbsp Honey Almond Milk
1. Throw all the fruit and oats into a blender.
2. Blend until smooth.
3. Add the honey and almond milk.
4. Blend some more and enjoy
The Workout Breakdown
I don’t believe that doing a killer 1-hour workout, then staying sedentary the rest of the day is a healthy lifestyle. Which is why I like to add swimming to my daily routine as something that I enjoy. It also helps me stretch those muscles pre and post work out.
Here are some of the workout routines that were tailored for me:
Relax And Lengthen Yoga Routine (WEEK 1)
Lower Body Beginner Sculpt (WEEK 2)
Intermediate HIIT Boxing Blas (WEEK 3)
Body Combat (WEEK 4)
The Rules Commit. Keep your eyes on the prize! If possible, enlist a partner in crime. It’s always easier when you have a buddy for support!
Drink lots of water! At least 8-10 glasses a day. Each day, exercise, eat breakfast, lunch dinner and some healthy snacks, and make sure to get a walk in, swim, bike or just walk your dog.
Avoid soda, sugary baked goods, and processed foods all together. Think of it as a junk food cleanse.
I truly believe that when we feel good on the inside, it shows on the outside. No matter how many cocktails you had over the holidays, if you stick to this plan for one week you will start feeling better immediately. Then, see if you can keep up the good work for another week…hopefully this plan will turn into healthy new habits. I’ll be starting this plan tomorrow, so let’s help each other do it together.
