10 Seriously Underrated TV Shows That No One Talks About

The number of choices we have when it comes to television is vast. Consequently, many high-quality shows fly under the radar, even successful ones. An online community asks the question: what are some underrated shows that people rarely discuss? There are quite a few from every genre.

1. Halt and Catch Fire (2014-2017)

Halt and Catch Fire is a fascinating and often riveting drama that centers on the technological developments of computers in 1983 Texas. It focuses on the tech warfare, relationships, and struggles of three individuals: an arrogant salesman, a brilliant engineer, and a young prodigy.

One user describes, “there's a lot of nuance to the plot and very strong character development.” Another viewer makes the spot-on comparison to the more successful series Mad Men saying how many overlook this similar show.

2. Pushing Daisies (2007-2009)

Pushing Daisies is a short-lived, fanciful, and cleverly written series that follows a man who can inexplicably bring dead things back to life. But there is a caveat. This power is only for one minute; if he does not touch them again, something else will die. This man is a pie maker who uses his gift (or curse) to solve murders. But his life changes when he brings his childhood sweetheart back to life.

One person perfectly describes Pushing Daisies as a “heartwarming, witty comedy.” Those who know and love this series talk about it. And the show was also critically acclaimed. But it is still a significantly lesser-known gem many have yet to discover.

3. Poldark (2015-2019)

This British drama is captivating, gorgeously filmed, and thoroughly entertaining. The story follows the life of Captain Ross Poldark and the engrossing lives of his family and friends in the post-revolutionary war mining town of Cornwall, England. These include his wife Demelza, first love Elizabeth, cousin Francis, and bitter rival George.

Although this series had a five-season run, it could only partially reach the mass appeal of shows like Downton Abbey. Still, though few talk about it, Poldark is a beautiful and poignant series.

4. Call the Midwife (2012-present)

Call the Midwife is a tender and thoughtful period drama that centers on midwives living amongst nuns from the 1950s onward. It follows the lives, relationships, and trials of the families and women they help. Times are much different now regarding pregnancy, but Call the Midwife's themes are timeless. Despite this series having over 100 episodes, it is one that few discuss in the online community.

5. Monk (2002-2009)

Monk holds to the distinction of being the first series to kick off similar productions on the USA network. It follows a former police detective with obsessive-compulsive disorder who remains brilliant in his observation and deductive skills. He is an invaluable asset as a consultant to the San Francisco police department. And this drama/comedy is equally poignant and funny.

It is a head-scratcher why Monk is so underrated. Despite a loyal fan base and multiple awards, when people discuss procedural shows today, they do not discuss Monk nearly as much as it deserves.

6. Elementary (2012-2019)

Sherlock Holmes has seen many incarnations. This modern and fresh interpretation is one of the best but one of the least discussed. In this series, Holmes is a recovering addict, and Watson is a former surgeon. She becomes his partner, and together, they consult with the police on investigations, forming an unbreakable friendship.

6. Elementary (2012-2019)

The procedural side of the show is familiar, but the characterizations are refreshing, making Elementary stand out. Even though the series has seven seasons and 154 episodes, Elementary is inexplicably an under-the-radar success. More should converse on this fine mystery series.

7. The Right Stuff (2020)

The Right Stuff is a rich and fascinating series that follows the lives of the pilots who become astronauts in the NASA Mercury missions. These include John Glenn, Alan Shepard, Gordon Cooper, Scott Carpenter, and Gus Grissom. It is a toss up what is more dramatic, their training or personal lives.

The world treats them as heroes, but things are sometimes rocky. This series only scratches the surface of their experiences with only eight episodes. That is likely why not many discuss it, which is a shame. Give it a watch, especially if you are a history or NASA fan.

8. Scrubs (2001-2010)

Scrubs has many fans who adore the show. So that begs the question: why isn't this series more popular in the history of medical shows? Is it because it is an irreverent comedy, not a drama like Grey's Anatomy and E.R.?

Regardless, Scrubs is often brilliant and unafraid to pull at the heartstrings. It deals with life and death through a comedic lens with terrific characters. One fan says, “Scrubs taught me many things, [and] in a way, changed my life.” I'm sure many can say the same.

9. Forever (2014-2015)

Forever is the most underrated of the many procedural shows out there. It only has one season but is unique and poignant. The different angle with this series is that it follows a man who has been the same age for centuries. He can die and has many times, but he always comes back to life. With his years and vast knowledge, he consults with the police on cases. Only his adopted son, many years his senior, knows his secret. Or so he thinks?

You might think a series about a man who can live forever would be more intriguing to viewers, but it never got the chance to spread its wings further. Regardless, its single season deserves to live on in the homes of many viewers.

10. Agent Carter (2015-2016)

Regarding the most popular Marvel Shows, people never fail to mention Agents of Shield, WandaVision, and Loki. But Agent Carter is not brought up often and more than deserves to be. It is a thrilling, energetic, and touching show that follows Agent Peggy Carter in post-WWII New York following the events of the film Captain America: The First Avenger.

This series is stylish, often funny and clever, and more than deserves to be as highly regarded as any other MCU series. Peggy is confident, strong-willed, caring, and intelligent, yet she must constantly fight to prove herself to her male colleagues. At least Peggy, and those who love this series, know her value. It's as high as they come.
