If you’re up on the road, feeling lonely and so cold, all you have to do is call my name and I’ll be there on the next train. Ah! Nostalgia. :’) Set in a fictional town of “Stars Hollow” in the romantic climate of Connecticut, 16 years ago in the era when music was on CDs and texting was on mails, Gilmore Girls is a TV series that revolves around the bumpy road of a life of a young mother and her daughter. Lorelai and Rory.

What’s the 401?

The tale revolves around a young mother Lorelai, who had her daughter Rory when she was sixteen. Neglected by the society, bestrided by her parents and repelled by the idea of marriage, she abandons her world to find her own. My favourite character, she can get you rolling on the floor laughing with her wits and quirks, and at the same time she can get you crying in her tangled emotions. The series starts sixteen years after Rory’s birth, when she finds her daughter in the same stage of life where she made a mistake that changed her entire life.

Rory, a bright student who turns sixteen to find herself in the turmoil of love. As life turns its plans up on her dreams, she has no option but to find the strength and make tough choices that will make make her love, laugh and live. As for her boyfriends, all of them are really jerks. Some people have their favourites. But, whatever.

My side

I sailed through Gilmore girls loving every island found and every tornado that wrecked the ship. It was charming experience, connecting with every character on all levels, every new twist and turn finding its place right to my heart. It felt like I had another life, away from here, in the enchanting snowfalls of that petite town, and living it through the eyes of this beautiful duo is all it took me to forget my actual whereabouts.

My fan sentiments condemn me to write what’s bad in Gilmore Girls, but only for the reader, here are some. But, like all great shows this one isn’t without flaws of its own.

First off, it’s a lengthy series. Seven seasons, twenty two episodes each. You do the math.

Secondly, not all the episodes are jaw-dropping fun. In fact like life, it does have it dull moments. But then again, like life, you don’t just stop living because it became dull. You live on to find greener, happier times. As does Gilmore Girls.

Gilmore Girls stands out in the way it discusses life as it is, unlike sitcoms: sitting in a cafe or a bar all day. It talks about the dreams of a child dreamt by her parent, and the difficult choices both parents and children face. Gilmore Girls was released at a time when the mother daughter relationships were deteriorating in the Americas. It built hope for daughters that they could share an intimate friendship with their mothers, and showed mothers across the country that intentionally or not, there will be always a time when they might be guilty of dictating their lives. Live your own life, it seemed to say as it quickly became a pop culture phenomena.

And that’s why, it’s no wonder that Gilmore Girls is being revived for four ninety minute episodes by Netflix. The shooting has already begun on 2^nd Feb 2016. Melissa McCarthy, who played Lorelei’s best friend, has officially confirmed that she wasn’t invited to the revival. The series ended ambiguously and obnoxiously. For some people, at least. But, here is now the opportunity for it to redeem itself. After all, the show is already in our hearts. Pretty sure no one would mind if it came any closer.

So, my suggestion is,  watch this series before the revival episodes come out. If you are a person whose emotions control his actions, who thinks about destiny, and contemplates the meaning of life, this show is meant for you. On the other hand, if you are cold and heartless and didn’t blink an eye drop towards the end of Toy Story 3, this one will probably change you.
