What Types of Car Insurance Coverage Exist?

If you’re exploring your car Insurance options in Rockford and surrounding areas, you may feel overwhelmed by how many options you have at your fingertips. If you’ve never had to get car insurance or you’re unfamiliar with the types of coverage that exist, you may be even more confused. Thankfully, our team at Insured ASAP is not only committed to helping you get the most affordable car insurance rates in the Chicago area, but we are also here to help you understand what’s included in your auto insurance.

We’ve outlined the five different types of auto insurance coverage with some helpful context of when you’d want to rely on each one. As always, our team is available to answer any questions you may have!

Bodily Injury Liability

If you get into a car accident, liability insurance helps cover the cost of any property damage or medical bills. The majority of states have a minimum amount of liability insurance for drivers. It’s never a bad idea to pay a bit more to increase your liability coverage for peace of mind.

Collision Coverage

This pays for any damage to your vehicle in the case of an accident. For example, if your car is totaled and the cost of repairing it is more expensive than the vehicle itself, collision coverage will kick in and pay for the value of the vehicle. You can determine if you want to opt for collision coverage depending on how old or valuable your vehicle is. (In the case that you have a lienholder, collision coverage is required).

Comprehensive Coverage

If your car becomes damaged from an unforeseen circumstance such as weather, an encounter with an animal, it gets stolen, etc., comprehensive coverage kicks in. If your budget allows it, comprehensive coverage is a great addition to your Illinois auto insurance policy.

Property Damage Liability

If the car accident causes damage to someone else’s property, property damage liability kicks in. This is only to pay for damage that happens to the other party.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist

State laws make it clear that all drivers on the road need some sort of insurance coverage. However, not all drivers follow suit. The minimum coverage amount for many states is also low, meaning it may not be enough to pay for damages following an accident. This is a relatively inexpensive addition to your car insurance that we highly recommend if you can afford it, as it will help bridge the gap between the other driver’s insurance and the cost of damages.
