Guru Shreshta Shri Professor VK Lakshmanan Nair
Prof VK Lakshmanan Nair is a Former Professor of Civil Engineering Govt. Engineering College, Thrissur. He has been recently honored with ‘Guru Shreshta Puraskaram’ in recognition of his contributions in the field of Technical Education, Art, Literature, and Culture, by the students at the college.
Prof VK Nair divulges with immense pride that today, many of his students are in very high positions as Senior Government officials and many in high positions in the business arena.
From his childhood days, Prof VK Lakshmanan has been a brilliant child who dreamt to get educated and bring pride to his parents. Coming from the background of an agricultural family, Prof VK Lakshmanan, was the first one ever from the family to attain schooling and has achieved significant educational benchmarks since then. He excelled throughout his Primary education at Pattaryasamajam high school. He accomplished his SSLC in 1961 in merit class. His true character moulding began when he joined NSS Hindu College, Changanassery for his pre-English class. This is where the Professor commenced thinking independently, further opting for a litmus test. He again became the first person ever to crack the stringent Preuniversity examination with accolades within Pallipuram Panchayath.
The Golden Arch of Pride and Honour
Thereafter, he applied for engineering and got selected in the NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad and swimming against the current, chose his personal favourite ‘Civil’ stream for his bachelor’s degree, while the majority went for the Mechanical.
Then after shining in the Civil Engineering final exam in 1967, his teachers motivated Prof VK Nair to join MSc in Civil Engineering. Accepting his Guru’s wishes he enrolled into College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram. He marked the times with his golden achievements again by becoming the first person from Cherthala Taluka to go for MSc in Engineering.
Prof Lakshmanan Nair made history by bagging the ‘George Oomen Memorial Gold Medal’ for the first rank he achieved in MSc Engineering.
An Educational and Social Reformist of the Highest Degree
Apart from being a professor in various colleges, institutes, and universities, Prof VK Lakshmanan Nair has been an active member of Calicut University Senate (from 1988 to 1992), Faculty of Engineering, Calicut University (from 1989 to 1992), Board of Studies (U.G.), Engineering, Calicut University (from 1982 to 1998), Task Group of Science, Technology and Environment, (Mini and Micro Hydro Electric Projects, Investigation), Kerala, Investigation of Historic Buildings, Syllabus Committee, Post Graduate Post Diploma in Eng., Sanskrit University, Kalady; District Planning Committee (DPC), District Level Expert Committee (DLEC), Award Committee, National Service Scheme, Govt. of Kerala; Subway and Infrastructure Development Society, Thrissur.
Furthermore, Prof VK Nair has been a Convener at Syllabus Committee, U.G. – Engineering, Calicut University – 1987; Faculty Advisor at Civil – Institution of Engineer’s Student’s Chapter – from 1975 – 1997; a Consulting Engineer at Sree Koodel Manikyam Devasom, lrinjalakuka, Govt. of Kerala; and Chairman at Municipal Level Expert Committee (MLEC), lrinjalakuda; and District Level Expert Committee (DLEC), Buildings and Inland water transport, Thrissur.

All through these senates, and committees, Prof VK Lakshmanan has been continuously transforming higher education through modernistic policies and noble reforms. An Inspiring Writer with Insights
Prof VK Nair has always been passionate about writing. The desire of penning down thoughts has thrived a writer in him, leading to the creation of many books in various categories. One of his famous novels, “Kaalam Sakshi” was released by Hon’ble Higher Education Minister Dr R Bindu on 16th November 2021. This novel was illustrated by Dr MG Sasi Bhooshan. The novel explicates that Time is the eyewitness for all the instants happening in this world which is realism.
His book: ‘Oru Pidi Mannu’ was recently translated to English “A Handful of Earth” by Srimathi Vimala Menon and re-released in September 2022 with a new hue and essence. Various other publications by him include Thaniyavarthanam, Randu Cent Bhoomiyil Oru Veedu, The Karayunna Raudra Bheeman, Sir Mokshagundam Vishveshwaraya, Sithila Chinthakal, Kaliyugam and many more adds on to his collection.
Exhibiting Brilliance of Exceptional Civil Consultancy
Quaxil has four verticals – Civil Consultancy, Education, Event Management, and Publication.
In the Civil Consultancy arena, Prof VK Nair has got about 50 plus years of experience with extensive and exceptional Civil Engineering works. He has completed 1000 plus house constructions along with the design and implementation of various civil structures like Temples, Colleges, Churches, Schools, auditoriums, shopping complexes etc.
In the Academic Publications domain, Quaxil has completed five publications, and another ten are in the process of getting published very soon.
