Lubna Sana, a freelance Makeup Artist started her journey when she was just 21 years old but what brings her here today is not only her journey but also the approach with which she works with her clients. While the world today is fighting against colorism, and “Fair is beautiful”, Lubna is also one of those warriors fighting against this notion by the portrayal of her makeup skills in the most modest way and putting forward a new approach that says all skin tones are beautiful and in order to be so one need not do any whitewashing.
Lubna graduated from Zorain’s Studio and Academy, Bangalore in 2018, and later worked with Nykaa as a makeup artist for 6 months. All her work till now is done from an artistic point of view rather than just making someone “pretty”. Her first encounter with makeup was pretty unusual as she only wanted to learn basic makeup for her college and exactly then she stumbled on one of the videos from a beauty blogger, Kaushal on YouTube and that blew her mind. From that moment her videos were one of the things Lubna watched in her free time and practiced on her own face. Lubna always had a thing for art of every kind but this art in particular, amazed her. She was amazed to see how little changes could have such impactful results and make one feel so confident. This pushed Lubna to take this more seriously than just “experimenting” with it and thereafter she completed her graduation and pursue training from a well-known academy.
Modestly YOU
Lubna’s reason to take this form of art as her profession was very different. She wanted people to talk more about enhancing features, supporting each other, or the art itself. Initially, it disturbed her a lot that but now she knows where she has to place her focus. She believes that makeup is not about deceiving people but only about enhancing the existing features one has made them realize that we are all beautiful on our own no matter what color. She wishes to inspire people by pushing them to have a wider perspective and only spreading the love of the right kind. Her road to this journey wasn’t easy as she wasn’t the typical makeup artist people were used to. In order to pay her bills and find work, Lubna interviewed at many places but was rejected despite having the skills on the basis of not being ready to remove her Hijab. But today Lubna has built her community no matter how small but genuine who believe in her idea of just being “Modestly you”
