Temporarily Handicapped and Taking things for granted

When the ability to do something is taken away, it can affect your whole life. One realizes the small things or maybe things we take for granted.  We don’t take for granted things until they are gone.

I broke my fibula which is a bone in your leg the week of Thanksgiving.  Basically I have been non-weight bearing on that leg since then.  I have had surgery on that leg so I do not want to chance barely putting weight on it.  I have been using a walker in the house and a wheelchair too some.  It has been hard to balance on one leg while trying to do things with your hands so you are not holding on to the walker at the same time.  I have had to maneuver around the kitchen doing things.  It has been hard to cook a normal meal.  Many days my son is at work so he can’t make dinner. We can’t go out all the time as we have to watch the expenses.  One of those times I wished I did more freezer cooking then I would have had meals in the freezer.

I am getting stir crazy being home each day. I don’t talk to anyone except my mom on the phone.  It is a little complicated to get me out of the house and down the steps. I can’t go to the store when I want like I am used to.  I don’t like telling others what I want.  I made a list for my son and he still messed it up.   I miss being at work talking with people.  I don’t like having to tell others in the house what to do when I used to do it.  It is so hard when things are done a certain way than others try and mess it up.  I like to be an independent woman.  I am not incapable of trying to do things for my family even with a handicap right now.

Making me be non-weight bearing for 2 weeks or so can be the worst thing for me.  It has done a number on me mentally as well.  I felt depressed because of this situation in general.

I guess I have felt what it is like for others to be Handicapped and live on their own.
