We should all try to look after our selves a bit better than we currently do.
Going to the gym a bit more, and cutting down on the fast food and surgery treats are all great ways of getting healthier.
After all, how are we suppose to fight off death and live a long and happy life if we can barely manage a flight of stairs without getting out of breath!
I don’t suggest you become a fitness fanatic, but when you reach a certain age, healthy living is more and more important.
Trust me, it’s something you won’t regret in the long run!
But sometimes something pops up that can put us off looking after ourselves.
After all, who wants to go running when they have a sore ankle? Not me (though I generally don’t want to go running anyway).
These sudden aches and pains can really put you off going to the gym, or going on that hike you promised yourself that you would do for the past month.
Aches and pains can make us feel so much older too! I banged my knee on the couch a few weeks ago, and the pain left me feeling like an old lady for the rest of the day!
They can come in all shapes and sizes too, from knee pain, back pain, headaches, and even neck pain!
Neck pain has to be the worst because it can prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep, and if you know me, then you know there’s nothing I love more than a good nights sleep!
We all have had an uncomfortable ache and pain at some point in our lives, and I think we can all agree it can be a pain in our backside too!
While some people turn to painkillers and other over the counter drugs to help ease their pain, there’s actually a more natural, and simpler way of dealing with the pain.
Reflexology might be the cure you’ve been looking for.
It’s true that it’s only a theory at the moment, but reflexologists believe that by applying pressure to certain parts of the hand or feet, pain and other medical conditions can be alleviated.
Reflexology is a holistic massage technique that focuses on the entire body to restore balance.
According to the theory of Reflexology, each organ, gland or body part corresponds to areas in both the hand and foot. Whenever pressure is applied to these points in your hands or feet, it is believed to activate specific pressure sensors that stimulate the internal organs and glands.
It’s thought that the perception of pressure by the feet and hands taps into the energetic reflex network which makes everything we do possible.
Just to be clear, before you try anything like this for yourself at home or by a professional, you should always consult a physician before trying out any alternative treatments.
Though, thankfully, reflexology as an adjunctive treatment is seen as very safe.
Stimulation of these reflex points is thought to promote relaxation, improve circulation, and even encourage self-healing.
Reflexology practitioners believe that it can cure a number of problems.
These conditions include:
female reproductive problems,
back, neck, and shoulder pain
headaches and migraines
It’s true that reflexology is a great addition to any wellness routine, it’s always important to remember that it’s not a substitute for medical care or treatment.
In order for you to be able to pinpoint the exact area of the hand or foot that needs to be targeted, take a look at a reflexology chart, which displays your hand and each body part is connected to.
This is called a reflexology chart.
The chart allows you to locate the area in need of relief, so you can give it a quick massage to apply pressure to the exact part of the hand that affects the area of your body in pain.
The Reflex Points in the Body
The good thing about reflexology is that our hands are easy to access and readily available for self-massage! Plus, it always feels nice.
You should be aware that the reflex points on your right hand correspond to the left side of your body and vice versa.
You should also know that:
The Thumb represents your head,
The inside of the upper thumb is connected to the side of the head,
The tips of the thumb, pointer finger and middle finger are directly connected to your brain,
If you work in the area between your fingernails and first thumb knuckle, it will relieve sinus pain or pressure,
Working the pinkies can de-stress shoulders,
The area beneath the fingers that extends to the thumb directly stimulates the lungs, heart, stomach, and pancreas,
The area from the base of the thumb down to the wrist will bring relief to intestines, spleen, and kidneys,
The area below the index middle and ring fingers accesses lungs and your heart,
Just below the lung or heart area is the point where your stomach and intestines are connected,
Focus on the wrist area if you want to focus relief on your reproductive organs.
What do the numbers mean?
1. Pituitary 2. Neck 3. Side of the head and Brain 4. Top of head and Brain 5. Sinus 6. Eye 7. Eustachian tube 8. Ear 9. Thyroid 10. Lung 11. Heart 12. Solar Plexus 13. Liver 14. Spleen 15. Stomach and Pancreas 16. Small Intestine 17. Colon 18. Bladder 19. Ureter tube 20. Kidney 21. Adrenal 22. Shoulder 23. Ovary/testes 24. Sciatic Nerve
To help tackle any issues you may have with digestive issues, try applying pressure to your points, and stimulate your intestines to reflex by interlocking your fingers.
You can also try rolling a ball around in the lower area of the palms of your hands. You should do this for about a minute once or twice a week to help with digestion.
Suffering from insomnia can be a real problem, especially if you love to sleep as much as I do!
According to reflexology, applying pressure to the pressure points connected to your head and sinuses will help ease the condition.
All you have to do is simply press and rub from the base of each finger to the tip. Then simply perform this on each finger three to four times a day.
If you suffer from back pain then you should try to stimulate your spine reflex which is the side of the thumb all the way down to the wrist.
You should also press with the flat of the opposite thumb, but make sure you start at the top of the thumb down to the wrist.
Try repeating this on both hands several times, three to four times a day.
If you want to improve your libido, than reflexologists believe you can stimulate the ovaries, uterus, prostate, and testes by grasping your wrist with your thumb and forefinger forming a circle.
Then you should your twist using the opposite hand. Twist your wrist about twenty times and then switch sides.
Repeat two to three times a day!
For a simple relaxation massage you should follow these easy and simple steps:
Pinch each fingertip and your thumb tip on your right hand. Make sure you apply the pressure for a few seconds.
Then tightly squeeze the sides of the fingertips for a few seconds.
Next, you’ll want to rub your fingers and thumb from top to bottom, make sure you’re vigorously going back and forth across each finger.
Then spread out your fingers and place your palms together.
Allow the right thumb to massage the top of the other and slowly move down toward your inner wrist.
At the end of the massage, you should press the thumb of one hand into the center of the palm of the other hand while breathing very deeply.
