Have you heard how ice can play?
Festivals aren’t a new trend in modern culture, but Norwegians knew how to surprise even the most spoiled Music lovers. Norway is among most successful and best destinations to spend your life and there are few reasons for it except a great economic system. The country has a unique nature, remarkable fjords, breathtaking landscapes and extraordinary festivals, one of them is the Ice Music Festival.
What makes it so special? The material all the instruments are made of – the ice. The idea of an ice music belongs to Terje Isungset who was inspired during his walk along the river. He heard a strange but captivating melody of the water under the ice. It was like a winter song which couldn’t leave Terje in peace and that’s what became his major life goal. Now, it has been years since Terje makes a special music and events together with his friends. The style of ice music is something between jazz and ambient. Just imagine listening to the smooth jazz and watch how musicians are performing on the ice made instruments. It is so creative and actually complicated, as ice is a very fragile material and it takes hours to make one single instrument. The variety of the instruments is truly amazing, you can see and hear everything: guitars, violins, tubes, and even drums.
Musicians admit that the sound such instruments make is different. Ice prolongs the deepness of tunes, turning the music into running melody.
Amazing event and if you happened to be in Norway, in the city of Geilo from January 31st to February 4th, 2018 you will have a chance to listen to this natural music!
