Kim was told it was too dangerous for her to carry a third.
Kim Kardashian has made no secret of her desire for a big family.
But after her pregnancies with North, four, and one-year-old Saint were plagued with health problems, Kim reportedly wanted to have her third child by another means.
The couple reportedly started looking for a surrogate in June – and have already had luck.
The surrogate is “a San Diego mom in her late 20s, referred by an agency” according to US Weekly .
And what’s more, they claim that she’s already three months into her pregnancy.
If true, that means Kim and Kanye could welcome their third child in January 2018.
They parents are said to be paying the surrogate $45,000 in 10 monthly installments of $4,500, according to a TMZ report.
In the case of multiple babies, they will pay an extra $5,000 per additional child. This is all in addition to the $68,850 deposit given to the surrogacy agency.
The surrogate’s contract with the couple also ensures aspects of the birth mother’s health and wellness habits.
Among the fairly standard guidelines are no drinking, smoking or drug use; no hot tubs or saunas; no raw fish; and no handling cat litter.
Kim has always been open about wanting more siblings for North and Saint.
As Kardashian told Ellen DeGeneres back in 2014, “I have so many siblings and I love it, they’re my best friends and I would love that for my kids.”
Her previous pregnancies were affected by placenta accreta – a high-risk condition that happens when the placenta grows too deeply into the uterine wall.
Kim was recently told by a doctor that it was too risky for her to carry her own child after a number of complications following her two previous births.
People Magazine and E! News, citing unidentified sources, said the couple had hired a surrogate in June, and TMZ said they had agreed to pay the surrogate more than $113,000 to carry a child.
“Kim and Kanye will use a surrogate to carry their third baby. They are both very excited to give their kids a sibling,” a source told People.
Mirror Celebs has contacted a representative for Kim for comment.
The reality star, 36, has spoken openly about her medical struggles during her pregnancies with daughter North, born in 2013, and son Saint, born in 2015.
In a recent episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim also spoke about considering surrogacy for future children with Kanye.
And the reality gave detailed accounts on her blog about the difficulties she experienced during her two labours, and the TV show has followed her various surgeries and doctor consultations in a bid to resolve them.
“I think I always knew that surrogacy was an option, but I didn’t think it was that realistic of an option, and now I feel like that’s my reality,” Kim said in an April episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
