The Importance Of Workplace Training

Employee Training is a tool as well as a strategy that every company should implement as they demonstrate their commitment to its employees. This allows employers to improve the knowledge, skills and motivation of their personnel.

Many organizations see training as an unnecessary expense. The reality is that instruction is an investment in human capital.  It makes employees more competent and efficient and therefore increases the value and productivity of the company.

This process is vital because it contributes to the personal and professional development of individuals while bringing benefits to the company. Training gives the employee tools to improve and feel committed. In doing so it develops a sense of belonging and ownership as the employee realizes that they are a valued member of the team.

As we see the advantages in this, why do many companies hesitate? Apart from the fact that sometimes they don’t have sufficient funds to put their employees on a training plan, it is also due to short-term thinking.

Managers realize that an employee can leave at any time. When this happens they see a part of their investment leaving as well. In some cases, the investment leaves and is now working for the competition.  Management must make the employee realize that they are concerned with growth and retention. High turnover is very counter productive.

 An example is an engineer. They can be very good in calculations and plans, however, how much do they know about leadership? How good are they at guiding the team, being empathetic, resolving quarrels? These things are not taught in school.

The training has very clear objectives, a few to mention:

  • Raising the morale of the workforce helps staff to identify with the company’s goals.
  • Encourage authenticity, openness and trust.
  • Improve the Manager-Employee relationship.
  • Optimize decision-making and problem solving.
  • Promote development with a clear view to promotion.
  • Contribute to the formation of leading leaders.
  • Increase productivity and quality of work.
  • Promote communication throughout the organization.
  • Reduce tension and promote a productive workplace environment

There are many companies specialized in staff training, with efficient techniques and obvious results.

Employees are the most important resource that any organizations has. Statistics have shown that a valued employee tends to stay with a company for a longer period of time. A happy employee is a productive employee.
