We continue with the stories and experiences of those startups that are now recognised as great successes – this time we bring you Tuenti.
Tuenti is a Spanish start-up born in 2006, by Zaryn Dentzel. The Network was initially for university students, but was gradually expanded after seeing the great success it had. You could only access the network by invitation initially, leaving those who were already registered the power to invite their friends and family. Eventually, they allowed entry to other users, which was the final kick that helped them grow as a nationwide social network.
This network offered similar functions to the other Social Networks at the time, such as creating a profile, uploading photos and videos, the ability to connect and communicate with friends and acquaintances. However, unlike common social networks that used banner advertising, Tuenti has always used alternative and less invasive forms of advertising in order to respect the privacy of users and the increase the usability of the website.
Tuenti has over 15 million registered users and was even referred to as “The Spanish Facebook”.
