Today's royal calendar was a busy one! One one side of London, Prince William and his wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (Kate Middleton) welcomed a baby boy. Stephen Lawrence was only 18 when he was murdered. He was standing at a bus stop, waiting for a trip to go home, and was killed because of the color of his skin.  That death brought created headlines that shook the country; it turned out the police had found the suspects, but took over two week to arrest them.  And it took 20 years before his killers were convicted. TBritish policing and attitudes have undergone many changes since his passing.

Lawrence's parents, Doreen and Neville hired private investigators and worked tirelessly to bring his killers to justice. Mrs. Lawrence was honored by the Queen with an OBE in 2003. Mrs. Lawrence is now a member of Parliment, and was granted a life peeraege. Her title is now Baroness Lawrence.

Over the years, the memorial service has become an annual event to honor Lawrence, his foundation, and other members of the public who were victims of racially motivated crimes.

Meghan and Prince Harry met with the Baroness at the event. Both have spoken publically against racially motivated crimes. In 2016, Prince Harry released a statement to the press about racist attacks on Meghan.
“His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment,” the statement read. “Some of this has been very public — the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments.”

For the event, Meghan wore her chic go-to bun updo and a black printed dress from Hugo Boss, nude shoes and a nude bag.
