Go Glamping at Governors Island This Summer

Want to get back to nature, but do it in an upscale manner? Go Glamping minutes from Manhattan.

Glamping, the idea of camping outdoors in Luxury is a trend that will not die. Glamping is nothing like the camping trips the Girl Scouts organized. No, glamping has luxury accomodations, luxury food and probably, luxury bugs.

This summer, you can get back to nature, but with all the mod cons on New York City's Governors Island this summer. The island is only 800 yards from downtown Manhattan--albeit surrounded by water, as it's in the middle of New York Harbor. Starting this May, Collective Retreats will be turning six acres of the 172 acre island, into a glamping retreat.

What will Collective Governors Island offer? There will be Three Peaks Lodge, premium bell tents with shared bathrooms, and luxury tents that have bathrooms en suite (attached). Let's talk about serious stuff, like food. If you've got the luxury tent, breakfast and S'mores are included. Everyone else, you have to pay for every meal.  All food is locally sourced, which means it will be very fresh.  It's all Farm to Table fare.

The above photo is the interior of one of their luxury tents. Me, I want to live in all year round, it's pretty nifty. So nifty, it has electricity. I've gone camping, we were lucky if we remembered batteries. They even have board games and books. Which is really important if it's raining, and you're tired of your company. A book and a cup of coffee can do wonders to a grumpy outlook.

Prices? You want prices? Here ya go. Premium Bell tents start at $150 a night.  Luxury tents are $500 per night, double occupancy. You can check out what comes with the rooms here.

They're also planning events specifically for attendees of their glamping retreat. And, yes, they do have a concierge service.

Words fail.

Would you go glamping? Have you gone glamping? Would love to know your experience.
