How it is made: The making of Handloom Silk Sarees

PC: Original Silk Sarees Facebook page

The elegance of Silk Sarees is irreplaceable. The drape and fall, the glimmer and the sheer richness of the fabric adds glmaour to your look on all festive occasions. The work that goes into making a handloom saree is also a mesmerising process and it takes days to get the final product in your hand.

It takes many many hours to create one saree and it starts right from making the fine Silk thread. It is very often made on a shuttle-pit loom made from ropes, wooden beams and poles. The weaver throws the shuttle from one side to the other creating the weft on the war that is set on the loom.

Handloom weavers also use a fly-shuttle loom which can produce different types of patterns.

Have a look at the elaborate process:

The video posted by TamilNavil.com on their Facebook page giving us a glimpse of the complicated and unique process of weaving. Each Handloom saree is unique as the fine process is completed by people using their artistic skills and years and generations of experience.
