Even though this move from Dodge was highly anticipated, not everyone was looking forward to it. Yes, the Dodge Challenger GT is now available with all-wheel drive and that might get a few purists shocked.
The 2017 Challenger GT AWD strays away from the classic muscle-car recipe, although the 3.5-liter Pentastar V6 engine is still delivering 305 hp and 268 lb-ft of torque, through a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission – power only gets sent to the front axle when necessary, which should be interpreted as a good thing.
From an aesthetic point of view, the AWD Challenger does not differentiate itself in any way from the RWD version, with the all wheel drive model set to include 19″ alloys and all-season performance tires as standard equipment. Also part of the factory list are the fog lights and a subtle rear spoiler.
On the inside, the driver will be enjoying heated and ventilated front seats wrapped in Nappa leather, an 8.4-inch infotainment system, and a heated steering wheel, which makes this sports car perfect for those cold winter days.
You could also go for the ‘GT Interior’ package, for an extra $995, and benefit from even more Nappa leather and Alcantara, a performance-focused steering wheel and nine speakers ready to deliver incredible audio experiences.
This AWD Dodge Challenger GT is set to start off at $34,490, dethroning cars like the Mercedes-Benz C300 4Matic Coupe, the Infiniti Q60 and the BMW 430i xDrive – at least from a financial point of view. We’ll have to see about the rest.
