Mary Kay “Into the Garden” Colour Compact Review

A few weeks ago, I was invited to Mary Kay’s launch party for their new “Into the Garden” Spring collection! This line was in collaboration with makeup artist Patricia Bonaldi and was created specifically for the upcoming bridal season. It was a lovely event, and Mary Kay was so nice to gift us the new line, which included the star of the this years launch, the Into the Garden Colour Compact.

First off, the packaging of this Compact is very pretty. I love the floral design – it is perfect for the spring time. I also like how the packaging has a magnetic closure, which is pretty standard but it makes opening and closing the compact very easy.

This compact comes with 4 eye Shadows, 3 lip glosses, and a duel ended applicator which has a sponge tip on one end and a lip brush on the other.

The shadows included in the Colour Compact are a light pink, a taupey-grey, a purple and a plum. They are all pretty, but shimmery – I would have appreciated a matte shadow as I feel like there is nothing here to add a nice contour to the eye. Another thing that I wish this compact included is a transition type colour as I think that this type of colour is great in the crease on its own but also in assisting to blend out other shadows. All of the eye shadows are very smooth and apply nicely to the lids. They are powdery and do bring up excess shadow when picked up on a brush, but blend out easily. I was disappointed, how ever, with the fact that the shadows creased on me halfway through the day. I use the Urban Decay Primer Potion on a daily basis and have never had shadows crease while using it, so seeing the creasing was very surprising. I tried another primer, the MAC Paint in Bare Canvas, and the same thing happened.

To get right to the point, I did not like the lip glosses at all. The pigment is almost non existant, which is disappointing as the colours are very pretty. The middle shade, a mauvy pink, is so frosty and there is little to no pigment so all you can see on the lips is the frost. The other shades are very similar – you can only see the glitter in the coral shade and just shine in the brighter pink one. I do like the way these feel on the lips, as they feel very balm like, but the loss of pigment in the glosses really turns me off to them.

Ultimately, this is not a product that I would recommend because the shadows creased with multiple primers and the lip glosses had no pigment. I have tried other products in their new line that I do like, but this is one that I would skip out on.

Have you guys tried Mary Kay products? If so, which ones are your favourite?
