On a quest for fashion tech excellence, Hermès and MycoWorks have created, together, a material that brags the highest standards of quality. The collaboration, which started three years ago, has introduced Sylvania, a new material hybrid of nature and biotechnology. The patented technology from MycoWorks enhances Mycelium as it grows.

New Generation of Biotech Materials

With a powerful fascination with Natural Raw Material and its transformation, both Hermes and Mycoworks have introduced a beautiful bag, the first object made with Fine Mycelium. “We could not imagine a better partner than Hermès to present our first object made of Fine Mycelium. Hermès and MycoWorks share common values of craftsmanship, quality, innovation, and patience”, said Matt Scullin, MycoWorks CEO.

With a vision for growing the future of materials, Hermès and MycoWorks objective was to explore the potential of Fine Mycelium. Partnering Hermès artistic practice and craftsmanship with MycoWorks’ unique biotechnology approach to enhance a natural material gave Fine Mycelium the potential to be the highest quality mycelium in the world.

Produced in the MycoWorks facility, the Fine Mycelium is tanned and finished in France by the Hermès tanners to refine its strength and durability further and shaped in the Hermès craftspeople’s workshops.
