Inspirational New Song “Try”- Colbie Caillat

Put your make up on, get your nails done, curl your hair. Run the extra mile, keep it slim so they like you, do they like you?

Colbie Caillat’s new Song “Try” is filled with inspiration. It has been on repeat since all of us at Destination Femme came across it. At first impression, it seemed to be a song about trying to live up to the standards of beauty in today’s society; telling women to put on makeup, be a certain size, and look a certain way. Rather, it is the opposite. It questions why we should try to be these so called “standards”.

Every day, we are bombarded by the media about how we should look, dress and feel about ourselves. Every day we are told that we are worth how much society deems us to be. This shouldn’t be the case. Essentially the song is trying to convey that we shouldn’t have to try so hard to be accepted by society. It spreads a positive message that we do not have to put on makeup to be beautiful. We do not have to buy the fanciest clothes, have the perfect manicure and be skinny to have worth. Stop trying to impress others and stop basing your self-worth by the acceptance and approval of others.

As Dr. Seuss would say, “Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.”

Tell us:

How do you define your self-worth?
