We hustled for money to buy extensions. Some of us even went to school early to get into our ‘scene gear’ so we wouldn’t leave the house with our parents yelling at us. Remember when ‘Mean Girls’ came out? They were the definition of ‘preppy’. Not to forget inspirations from ‘Gossip Girl’ or ‘The Heathers’. Clean, smooth hair, and the look of innocence was prominent in this stage. Think pleated skirts, school uniforms, plaid, and overall a very girly taste. For older women, it can be seen as professional and feminine: dress shirts, blouses, vests, and modest attire. During this phase of our lives, we thought the more ‘prim and proper’ we looked, the better we were as human beings.

Yes, I said it, “Mean Girl”. You can take many references from the movie. This is basically the bully phase. Bullying isn’t just beating people up, it’s emotional. There is no defining style, but pride and popularity was what conquered our lives. Often, this phase happens in high school. We wanted the most friends. We wanted everyone to look up to us. We wanted to be the toughest and baddest bitches. If necessary, verbal abuse or indirect bullying was necessary. Social status had to be established. Unless you’ve achieved your goals, it isn’t a very good phase to look back on.

We all have an inner geek. Some are more public about it than others. Gaming girls, anime girls, graphic addicts, web developing advocates, this is your time to shine. This is the phase where you embrace it. Playing games every night until 3am after school, watching anime marathons every time you have a chance, or creating a presence online for your talents. Often, communities are essential. You find your niche to go hang out with new friends that are also in this phase. Some people never look back on this stage of their life because it becomes their life.

This lifestyle is based off of inspirations from electronic dance music, or EDM. These are party girls who love to go out to concerts, events, and clubs. Their style is bedazzled with plenty of decor. The decor ranges from multi- coloured beaded jewelry, crystals, feathers, lace, etc. A common life statement is “PLUR” also known as “peace, love, university, respect”.
