Time to Ride: Zenith Joins Forces with the Distinguished Gentlemen

Words by: JPS for duncan quinn

The annual Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride now raises more than $5 million per annum for cancer research in the coolest way possible –

gents suiting up to ride their motorbikes in outrageous splendour all around the world. This year’s event, backed by Triumph and classic Swiss watch brand Zenith, kicks off on Sept. 25 and promises to be the biggest yet. More than 50,000 riders in 550 cities across 90 countries are expected to take part in the spectacle which surely defies the notion that you shouldn’t ride a motorcycle in your Sunday best. And though notions of best-dressed vary by country we’d say all the distinguished gents look downright natty.

This year Zenith is also producing a special timepiece, the DGR Pilot Ton-Up, with a 45 mm-diameter aged steel case, the perfect accessory for the journey. Do note though that the DGR’s founders are pretty particular about what sort of bike should be ridden in the event. Café Racers, preferably, bobbers, perhaps a scrambler or three, and anything vintage are A-OK. Modern sport and superbikes are frowned upon, but we say what matters most is the man on top. If you can look like a distinguished gentleman astride a Ducati Supersport, then more power to you. We’ve carried it off on more than one occasion so let’s not be quite so choosy, shall we…?
