Virginia is for Speed Lovers: Brian Redman & the BMW “Batmobile”

Words by: JPS for duncan quinn

BMW must be feeling extremely generous on the occasion of its 100th anniversary.

The BMW Performance Driving School in partnership with BMW USA Classic is literally offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a few racing enthusiasts in Virginia come November. From Nov. 7–8 those signing up for the BMW Legends of VIR program at Virginia International Raceway driving current BMW M models under the personal instruction of legendary BMW drivers Brian Redman and Bill Auberlen will also get hot laps in the famous 1975 12 Hours of Sebring winning #25 3.0 CSL “Batmobile” and the 2011 ALMS winning E92 M3 GT, which took 7 podium finishes in its first 10 races.

Redman and the Batmobile? This is truly bucket list stuff. A member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame, his better known victories include the 1974, 1975 and 1976 Formula 5000 Championships, the 1970 Targa Florio (in a Porsche 908) and the Spa-Francorchamps 1000km in 1968-1970 and 1972, as well as the 12 Hours of Sebring twice – in 1975 at the wheel of the same #25 BMW CSL he’ll be driving in Virginia, and in 1978 with a Porsche 935. In all he participated in 15 World Championship Grands Prix, achieving one podium in the 1968 Spanish Grand Prix, finishing third in a Cooper-BRM behind Graham Hill in a Lotus-Ford and Denny Hulme in a McLaren-Ford. Think you’re good enough to ride with him? Get your arse to Virginia and see….
