For Motorcycle collectors there are few happy hunting grounds as fertile as Bonhams’ annual Stafford sale

taking place October 17-18 at The Classic Motorcycle Mechanics Show in Staffordshire, UK. More than 230 bikes from all eras will be on offer, including some true rarities of the sort that make DQ’s blood pressure rise. Some important bikes from the likes of the Gary Ross Collection and The Keeley Collection – well known to moto snobs will be joined a few celebrity-owned rides: a 1934 Indian 750cc Sport Scout owned by Steve McQueen that last looked cool when he was actually sitting on it; and some 1960s-70s Hondas that Top Gear’ Captain Slow James May is getting rid of. Our hearts tend to race for more heavenly machines like Laverdas, Nortons and Brough Superiors, though, thankfully Stafford stalwarts all. Herewith, our pick of the top lots:
