I know that a lot of parents don’t want to admit to this, but yes, when I need a break, I allow my kids to spend some unsupervised time in front of their tablet screens to watch their favorite Youtube videos. Does this make me a bad mom? It depends on who you ask, but it’s either their tablets or the television screen. And lately, all they ever want to do is watch YouTube. As a matter of fact, I can’t even remember the last time they turned on a television in our house to watch the Disney Channel because they would rather watch Jake and Logan Paul’s goofy videos online instead.
With that being said, I know that I need to make a better effort of policing what they watch. I do from time to time check their Safari history and my husband has made sure to put on as many parental restrictions as possible. But it might not be enough because there are channels like Toy Freaks that manage to make it through the cracks. Luckily, YouTube is doing something about it and taking them down, one by one. But for some parents, that might not be enough.
