5 Things You Can Use FSA Dollars to Buy

An FSA (Flexible Spending Account) is a great way to pay for medical expenses! Fsa Funds are taken out of your paycheck before taxes, or, in some cases, your employer may make contributions to their employees’ FSA funds. Once you have an FSA fund, you can use it for a wide variety of medical expenses. The only catch is this: You have to use your funds by the end of the year—or you lose them!

Do you have FSA funds that are ready to expire this December? You may be surprised to learn that you can use your funds to pay for just about anything you may need to keep your eyes healthy for the next year. Here are a few ideas, some you may expect—but others that might surprise you!

  1. Eye Exams

If it’s been longer than a year since you’ve had your eyes checked and you’ve got FSA funds in an account waiting to be used, you really have no good reason not to make the appointment! Go and get your eyes checked! Not just for the sake of clear vision, but for the sake of your health. Your eyes are the window to your overall health. Did you know an eye exam can reveal if you’re suffering from heart disease, diabetes, or, in some cases, cancer! Plus, the best way to preserve your vision for the future is to make sure your eyes are healthy and your vision is sharp. Go get the exam; your FSA funds will cover it!

  1. Designer Glasses

The incredible thing about FSA fund money is the flexibility you have. Gone are the insurance company restrictions on which eyeglass frames are “eligible” to be covered. So, friend, go find the most stylish designer eyeglass frames you dare, and use that FSA card to pay for them.

  1. Designer Sunglasses

This applies to sunglasses too! Even if you don’t get prescriptions in the sunglass lenses, buying your sunglasses at Eyeglass World means you’re getting ophthalmic quality sunglass lenses that will actually protect your eyes from the sun and serve a medical purpose! Why buy cheap sunglasses at a department store when you could use your FSA money and get a pair of designer sunglasses that will both look good and last!

  1. Contact Lenses

If you need and wear contact lenses, make sure your prescription is current and then stock up! If you have enough FSA money left, this would be a great opportunity to buy an annual supply and save even more money (it’s always cheaper to buy contacts in bulk!) No matter how much you have left, there’s a good chance you could afford to buy a box or two of new contacts. It’s always nice to have extras!

  1. Contact Lens Solutions

Let’s say you just have a little money left in that FSA account. Maybe it’s not enough for a new pair of Oakleys or two boxes of contacts, is there anything else you can do with it? There sure is! How about getting some contact lens solution? It’s a medical expense when purchased at Eyeglass World because it goes with your medical devices (your contact lenses). Most solutions don’t expire for a year or longer, so spend that last thirty dollars or so on contact lens cleaners or solutions.

Remember: FSA funds expire December 31! So, before the holiday season gets to busy, make plans to stop by your closest Eyeglass World and use those dollars on the eye care you need…before they expire!
