When you are watching Elsa wield her powers on the big screen, it looks larger than life. Children anyway have high level of imagination and her ice magic fills them with excitement and takes them on an adventure. Children cannot stop singing “Let it Go”

“Let it Go” has been a rage ever since its release and it was the fifth-best selling Song of 2014 and it has received over one billion hits on YouTube till date. There is a reason as to why the song is so popular. It has very good lyrics and on top of that, the visuals and the setting of the song appeals to one and all. The song starts when Queen Elsa is leaving her coronation and heading for an eternal winter in her town Arendelle. It is a very emotional moment in the movie and the way it has been sung also does justice to the enormity of the occasion. All these factors put together makes a chart busting song and so it has proven, especially for pre-adolescent adults. 

Her undying love for her sister

Elsa is a very well written character. There are different shades which are quite enjoyed by young girls. Like all children, she is also shown to have a mischievous side when she is playing with her sister Anna. However, the movie also shows her great love and affection for her sister. Since the day Elsa accidentally struck Anna with her powers, she spends her life trying to hide them. Anna repeatedly tries to develop a friendship with her sister, but Elsa cannot imagine risking her sister’s life again. Even though this led her sister to believe that Elsa does not like her, she thinks it is best to stay hidden. This shows her dedication to family and a great capacity for sacrifice for the good of people she loves. Elsa’s love for her sister is pictured beautifully when she is seen crying and hugging Anna after she was frozen to ice. Even though children are smitten by her magic and power and most likely do not get Elsa’s experience in isolation and desperation when she locks herself away in a remote castle, the moment exemplifies her ability to put others before her.

Her creation of Olaf

Olaf is a friendly snowman that Elsa creates and brings to life. She has been informed from a young age that unless she conceals and hides her dangerous powers, it will bring destruction to everyone around her. However, she proves everyone wrong when she creates Olaf. It shows that even at a young age she has the ability to create something wonderful if she learns to channelize her powers. It is shown that her powers can be used for the good of the world and are not just a source of destruction. 

The way she saves Arendelle

Elsa runs away from her coronation for an eternal winter in her town Arendelle. She does so to protect everyone from her destructive powers. She learns a lot about her magical powers in the first movie, but it is only in the sequel that she truly leans to harness and use her abilities. As she journeys to Ahtohallan she learns the truth about her past and slowly begins to take control of different aspects of her powers. The way she rides the water horse spirit and stop the flooding of Arendelle using a giant ice wave takes the breath away.

When Elsa breaks the shackles and embraces herself

There are two instances in the movie that Elsa tries to find freedom. The first is when she sings “Let is Go” and runs away to Arendelle. At this time she is only heading to path of self-discovery, but hasn’t truly understood how to have a meaningful connection with those around her. It is only in the second movie that she truly begins to embrace herself. Her time away not only helps her understand herself and her magic better, but also helps her find a way where she can be close to people she loves. The entire sequence is shown beautifully in another great song “Show Yourself”. This is where she realises her self-worth and begins to cherish and appreciate who she is and what she was born to be.
