Introduction to the Fabulous Elie Saab
Most eight-year old boys are more interested in the typical male-driven entertainment, and perhaps following after their fathers. This however, was not the case of Elie Saab, a young boy born in Beirut and, self-taught when it came to sewing, patterns, and how to design absolutely divine fashion. By using his sister to model his designs Saab soon became enamoured with the fashion industry, and was convinced at a young age that this was what gave his life purpose. After that there was no stopping his rise to fame. He studied fashion in Paris, and by the age of 18 had returned to Beirut to begin his own fashion label with no less than fifteen employees.
Halle Berry Winning 2002 Oscars Gown
His name would not become widely known in America until the 2002 Academy Awards when one of his dresses, was worn by award-winning actress Halle Berry, who won Best Actress in that year. This dress was voted by a prominent UK newspaper as the 8th best red carpet dress of all time. Berry would showcase more of Saab’s dresses over the years. But it was from the Oscar win for Halle in 2002 in a Saab’s dress that opened the doors for his delectable designs. Making them a regular show at award ceremonies, and, quite obviously, the Oscar’s. As of 2009 his designs were worn by upwards of 40 famous personalities, and by 2010 that number had almost tripled.
Celebrities Flock to the fabrics of Elie Saab
While the number of celebrities wearing his designs has fluctuated in the past several years, there is still no mistaking the very obvious fact that at any American award ceremony there is bound to be a Saab design somewhere in the crowd. Actresses that have bejewelled his stylish and exquisite gowns include the fore mentioned Halle Berry, Cate Blanchett, the world-renowned Beyoncé, Elizabeth Banks, Kate Beckinsale, Jennifer Lopez, Ciara, Scarlett Johansson, Angelina Jolie, and many more.
There is no doubting the elegance of a genuine Elie Saab design, nor is there any indication that demand will ever go down, when speaking of the absolutely stunning dresses he produces. For many years now Saab’s designs have graced runways all over the world. Influencing fashion and bringing new ideas and innovations that have helped to shape and revolutionize the industry. To this day his very name is synonymous with elegance and taste. Celebrities flock to Saab’s designs with great aplomb every year, seeking to showcase his talent and accentuate their already stunning looks with his fabulous designs.
The Meryl Streep Accusation
Recently however his fashion assistance seems to have sparked just a bit of controversy with at least one of Hollywood’s most elite. The fact that it is not the fault of Saab is not so much in question, but the involvement of his service seems to be at least a part of the reason why this story has caught so much attention.
Meryl Streep, up for her record-breaking 20th nomination for an Oscar, was reportedly set to wear a gown designed by Chanel designer Karl Lagerfield to the awards ceremony, but at the last moment changed her tune and went with a stunning blue Elie Saab number instead. The rumour, that was allegedly started by Chanel designer Karl Lagerfield himself, was that Streep had turned down the gown he designed because Elie Saab was paying her to showcase his gown. It stood to reason that a swift denial, and subsequent explosion of word would come next. Columnists were not disappointed. Streep’s representatives were quick to debunk Lagerfield’s claim that any remuneration had occurred on her part.
Elie Saab at the 2017 Oscars
Saab is known for lavishing more than just one famous name each and every year. While Ms Streep may be one of his most influential clients to date. There have been many others that have been worn his designs with all the flourish necessary to show off every nuance and detail.
Another promising star showed that she too has what it takes to pull off the look of a Elie Saab in her first appearance at the Oscars. Nominated for her roles in two different films, Janelle Monae showed that the “go big or go home” attitude certainly pays off when trying to make an impression. The Haute Couture gown that she displayed was evidence of the mastery and sheer genius of Elie Saab and a trademark of his label. This dress was resplendent. With its stunning design and regal appearance, this dress will go down in history as one of the most decadent that Janelle Monae has ever worn.
There’s a lot to be said about Elie Saab and his impressive success in the world of fashion. Very few likely believed that the son of a wood merchant would ever aspire to the heights that he has reached, and less would have believed that he would one day design gowns of such exquisite taste. As the 52-year old designer has proven however it takes only desire and a dream to create something great enough that people desire.
