“You can see happiness, sadness, fear, fierceness…You definitely see everything through the eyes.”
Sounds deep, right? Well, whether this or whatever else inspired the man who made red soles iconic to create a line of luxurious eye makeup, we really don’t need a reason to love everything Louboutin. Moving strong with his advent on the beauty world, the designer will now take up premium shelf space with Les Yeux Noirs, a collection that includes mascaras, eyeliners, and eyebrow pencils.
Given what a success his Loubichrome nail lacquers, and Loubilaque lip glosses were, price points be damned, we’re sure no one will notice the $40+ (£32+) MRPs on these babies.
So, save the date. March 23rd marks the official in-stores launch of Christian Louboutin’s Spring 2017 Les Yeux Noirs collection.

The collection release on Instagram was very theatrical, which makes perfect sense it is inspired by the Egyptian Queen Nefertiti, and Kathakali (a traditional Indian dance form) dancers. The palette has rich, pigmented colours, which are reminiscent of the dancers’ dramatics, and the Queen’s bold eye makeup.
Breaking Down The Collection, Piece By Piece
- Christian Louboutin Oeil Vinyle Luminous Ink Liner: Could this bottle be anymore Louboutin? The design is reminiscent of the stiletto, and it actually looks quite similar to the Rouge Louboutin nailpaint. It costs a staggering $75 (£62). The winning felt tip and pigmented colours claim to glide on your lids with smooth precision. The Ink is available in three shades: Khol (black), Rouge Louboutin (red), and Lady Twist (teal).
Houston, we’re ready for liftoff! Rouge Louboutin is now in orbit. Available in nail, lip and lacquer, our iconic red is not only timeless, it’s intergalactic. #BeauteLouboutin
- Christian Louboutin Oeil Velours Velvet Eye Definer: To put it plainly, this is the pencil eyeliner (unlike the ink liner/liquid liner). The product comes in five shades: Khol (black), Zoulou (brown), Fierce (metallic plum), Deep Teal (blue), and Hot Chick (yellow). The velvet finish of the liner is “super smooth” and “feel very luxurious”, according to Huda Kattan. Consider it for smokey eye makeup, smudging the corners of your lids, or if you prefer pencil over liquid liners.
- Christian Louboutin Oeil Velours Brow Definer: This is Huda’s favourite product from the collection. It has been said that the balmy texture of the definer makes the brows look natural while giving them that minimal sheen. The Brow Definer comes in four shades: Blonde, Brunette, Auburn, and Taupe. Both the Eye Definer and Brow Definer retail at $40 (£33).
In the blink of an eye. Les Yeux Noirs Lash Amplifying Lacquer delivers high drama, enhancing volume, definition, length, lift and curl of lashes. The formula is encased in a substantial brass tube reminiscent of Art Deco architecture and topped with a delicate shiny black crown dressed in spikes… of course. #BeauteLouboutin
- Christian Louboutin Les Yeux Noirs Lash Amplifying Lacquer: A mascara that screams luxury with every coat, the Lash Amplifying Lacquer comes contained in a decadent Egyptian-inspired brass tube with tiny spike details on the neck, and a signature Louboutin Beauté crown. However, the most interesting component in this mascara has to be the wand—it has both vertical and horizontal bristles to create dramatic red carpet-style lashes. At $70 (£57), it’s quite steep but totally worth it for the coverage and volume it provides with a single coat.
Availability: Les Yeux Noirs has a very tight distribution and will only be available on the brand’s website and at select stores like Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Selfridges, Net-a-Porter and Neiman Marcus. Only 40 countries will have access to the full line of eye drama. It is the exclusivity factor that makes Christian Louboutin releases coveted must-haves, and the brand’s makeup collections are no different.
