Fitness Trends for 2018

Based on research done by the American Council on Exercise, there are a few trends shaping up so far for 2018 that you may want to take note of. Although this list is not an exhaustive list, it does give you some ideas of where the industry is heading in terms of Fitness trends for 2018.

2018 will rediscover functional training
High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) has been the big news the last few years, but 2018 may see a return to functional training – training that focuses more on movement quality over intensity and load. Rather than pushing to exhaustion, the trend may be more on what quality of movement.

HIIT will still be big in 2018
High intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions usually only no more than 30 minutes, but requires short bursts of high intensity exercise followed by a slower-paced recovery period. These workouts are time efficient and effective if you’re looking to fry fat, research suggests. They are also known for a higher rate of injury than other types of exercise.

Wearable technology is still big – and growing!
Wearable tech includes activity trackers, heart rate monitors, GPS tracking devices, and smartwatches such as the Apple Watch and FitBit. Techonolgy like this is a great way to track your progress toward your fitness and diet goals.

Body Weight Training
Using your own body’s weight to provide resistance for Strength Training is something people have done for centuries, but with tools like the TRX, you can work multiple muscles at one time, get a great workout, and you can do it wherever and whenever you want.

Strength Training
Ok, strength training (also known as weight lifting) is nothing new. But it’s expected that for 2018, strength training will continue to be an important part of current fitness trends – and continue to grow as well.
