2 Things I'm Leaving Behind in 2019

Last year was the first year where I introduced my Things I'm Leaving Behind post. It was popular, I thought I'd try it again this year! I am joined again by a few of my friends in the fitness world who are leaving some things behind as well.

Here's what I said last year about why I put together this list:

I know we've all seen a bunch of posts on social media with folks reflecting on their year, posting their favorite members, and talking about their resolutions for 2019. At the end of each year, I like to reflect on the year and recalibrate for the upcoming year. I don't necessarily do "resolutions" in the traditional sense, but I'm all about setting goals throughout the year anyway, so why not set some more at the dawn of a new year? So this year, I'm trying something new: I'm choosing 10 specific things I'm leaving behind in 2018, for real for real. Throughout the year, I told myself to stop doing these things, but I'm stubborn and hard-headed so I didn't even listen to myself. Now that I'm throwing it out there in the universe (otherwise known as the internet), I have to do them, right?

I actually did pretty well with my list from last year, so, bravo, me! I focused more on self-care, I actually ran some races (including my first Ragnar Trail race ever!), I incorporated more strength training into my fitness routine, I began teaching indoor cycling as a regular instructor, I used my tent for camping, and I made more time for my business. Now, I was still awful about comparison, actual pounds lost,  time management (not as frequently), and sugar (not as bad as the previous year), but I did almost all of the things I said I would do, and improved on most of the things that I didn't totally check off the list. I'm hopeful that I can do better with those items this year, so I'm not adding it to my updated list.

This year, my list is a heck of a lot shorter. And so, without further adieu, here it is!

"Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda." Living in the past does not do the body good. This year, I'm going to focus on what I am doing and how I will hit the various goals I'm setting for myself in 2020. It's counterproductive for me to beat myself up over events I could've attended, brands I would've worked with, emails I could've sent, etc. I'm going to push myself to be much more forward-thinking in the new year!

Dark Undereye Circles. I know this seems particularly random, but it's something that's been concerning to me lately. My sleep has been pretty terrible the last couple of months in particular, and I don't want these pesky bags under my eyes hanging around for too long. My goal is to give them an eviction notice ASAP! If you have any tips or tricks for getting rid of these annoying bags, please let me hear them!

So, there's my list! Now, find out what some of my friends are leaving behind in 2019:

The start of the year I did not realize the difference 12 months can make. 2019 has been simply amazing but there's one thing I would not mind leaving behind. It is guilt. Guilt is something we all deal with from time to time but mine was endless. I felt guilty for saying no, I felt guilty for saying yes, felt guilty for doing too many things with my daughter, and I felt guilty for not doing enough. My Guilt Breakthrough happened when my daughter told me to, "DO YOU, BOO." I interpreted her Gen Z vernacular into doing the things that make you happy. Guilt kept me stagnant and prevented me from being genuinely happy. My daughter's words kicked my confidence into high gear. It was time for me to stop living in guilt. Buh bye, guilt. See you never!

Something that I am leaving behind this year is the need to do things on my own. Halfway through this year, I realized that although I would love to be great at everything, I have many skills to learn. It's okay to ask for help and allow others to help you. I am leaving behind relying on myself and taking with me the desire to connect with others.

In 2020, I’m leaving behind leaving myself behind. In 2019, I went hard in the paint for everybody and everything. This year, I’m focusing on me. I’m giving Tasha that 110%. It is time.

I'm leaving behind the inner dialogue of repeatedly negative people.

Procrastination has been the bane of my existence for as long as I can remember. Sad, but true. I believed the lie I was telling myself about working best under pressure. So not true! It just created more stress and anxiety that was totally uncalled for. The irony in all of that is that I'm a planner. Having great plans and ideas, but waiting until the last moment to execute them is not a good combination. So I'm leaving that stress and frustration from procrastination in 2019.
