How to Turn Any Space in your Home into A Home Gym

You can turn any space in your home into a gym with a little creativity and by using Gym Equipment for Home use. Some of theworkouts are more favorable in small places. If you need to access your workout equipment quickly—to get your training done while your kids are asleep, or without the trouble of traveling to the health club, you’re at the right place. You can turn any space in your home into a Home Gym. Here are the steps that you need to follow:

Determine Your Space

How much space will you need for your home gym? According to the American Council on Exercise, here are some guidelines for gym equipment space requirements:

  1. Treadmill or elliptical machine—30 square feet
  2. Stationary bike—10 square feet
  3. Rowing machine—20 square feet
  4. Free weights—20–50 square feet
  5. Single-station gym—35 square feet
  6. Multi-station gym—50–200 square feet

Cross check all the facilities

The exact location of your gym depends a great deal on the layout and space of your home such as:

  1. Temperature and airflow are very important in planning your home gym design. In many instances, a basement or garage is ideal, since these are usually the coolest locations in any house. If you don’t have a naturally cool room for your home gym, you’ll want one with windows that open for added ventilation.
  2. Noise is also a factor—another reason you may want to work out in your basement or garage. Concrete slab floors (common in basements and garages) will absorb noise and vibrations from cardio.
  3. Lighting is a consideration, too. Make sure the space you choose is comfortable and inviting so you’ll be sure to spend plenty of time there.

Create your own weights

Apart from any gym equipment for home use, If you have a scale, you can create your own weights from items you already have in the house. Plastic milk bottles, large vinegar containers and even distilled water containers can be filled to create weights for your gym.

Use chairs for your workout

There are a number of exercises you can do with a chair as your equipment, from chair dips to seat taps—basically marching and swinging the arms but lifting your leg high enough to tap the seat of the chair. This can serve as your home gym equipment.

Buy or create your own exercise mat

You don’t have to have a special yoga mat or exercise mat to workout. You can make do with a long runner or even a large throw rug. Yoga mats, however, aren’t that expensive and can be used for other workouts besides yoga.

Buy the home gym equipment which work best for your workout program, and expand as your interests and abilities grow. Here are some items to consider, depending on your wants and needs.

  4. Stationary bike or trainer (to use with an existing bike)
