Review: Having made it from Cebu, there were a number of things that we wanted to see in Bohol. The first was  the tarsier conservation centre. Tarsiers are the smallest primate in the world and they look like cute little aliens. So we rented a moped and headed out to explore.

Tarsiers are nocturnal creatures, which means during the day, they tend to stay put. The conservation centre has no fences, meaning the tarsiers there are free to come and go as they please. They turn up each night to get fed, before hunkering up for the day in one of the trees. The staff then come in and have to tarsier spot each morning. Sounds like the best job in the world if you ask me. These cute little animals have huge eyes, long sticky fingers and a rat like tail! The Philippine tarsier was a common sight in the southern part of the island until the 1960s. However, they are sadly now on the endangered animals list. They look so weird and adorable I wanted to steal one, but apparently they commit suicide in captivity by smashing their tiny cute heads on rocks. Adorable but mental. So as cute as they are, please don't touch one if you see it in the
wild!

When we got back from our adventure I decided to look for a gym in Bohol. Close to our hotel, I found Triskay Fitness. Uo on the first floor of the building it is in, Triskay Fitness was packed when I headed in there about 6pm. It is definitely a guys gym, as there wasn't a single women, or tourist, in there. Whilst there is some cardio equipment, this seemed to be somewhat historic and in questionable working order. It was clear from the ambience and the people training here that this was a lifters gym.

The qym was pretty well equipped, with plenty of free weights and machines. This gym has:
  • Dumbbells up to 30kg
  • Adjustable benches
  • Incline barbell bench
  • Flat barbell bench
  • Cables
  • Lat pulldown
  • Easy bar
  • Dips / Leg raises / Pull up bar
  • Smith machine
  • Tricep pushdown machine
  • Weighted shrugs machine
  • Chest press machine
  • Squat rack
  • Leg press machine
  • Leg raise machine
  • Leg curl machine
  • Static bikes
  • Tread mill
  • Punch bag
The gym has a water dispenser, so you can grab a cup to help keep you cool It also sells a pretty decent range of supplements from fat burners to whey protein. A shot of the price list is below in the photos. When I was there, a protein shake cost 22 pesos (approx £0.30), a weight gainer shake was 35 pesos (approx £0.40) and a dose of pre-workout NO Explode was 32 pesos (approx £0.35). Can buy these to take away too, so you might want to grab some for the road if you are running low.

Who is this gym for? When I trained here it was exclusively local guys who were working out here and to be honest, it seemed like a pretty macho atmosphere. I would probably recommend that single female travellers look elsewhere for a friendlier atmosphere whilst in Bohol, but I would draw the line before saying it would be unsuitable for them. Expect a lot of attention from the locals if you decide to train here as a single female. Gym newbies may also find the atmosphere a little intimidating to begin with, but everyone is friendly enough once you get talking to them.

Tips: If want to use lockers to secure your valuables whilst you train then you will need to bring your own padlock.
