Before I give you me secret morning recipe, let me just tell you why and how breakfast is essential to your physical and mental health. We often say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, meaning that skipping it is not an option to even think of ! First of all, be aware that skipping breakfast can have a negative impact on your mood and energy level during the day, setting you to poor decision taking. Litterally, breakfast means "break the fast". In fact, after hours of fast from sleeping, your body will need to replenish its glycogen stores in order to function correctly, otherwise you will be more likely to feel hungry, cranky and tired. Skipping Breakfast has shown to slow the metabolism down, and at the end can lead to weight gain. While you keep your body on a "fasting mode" by not eating, you are simply telling him to start storing calories (as if you were about to hibernate), therefore, you are encouraging it to burn calories and you will be more likely to store fat instead. Also when metabolism slows down, in order to keep functionning, your body will look for other fuel sources and will turn to the glucose stored in your muscles, therefore leading to muscle loss. So when people think that skipping breakfast will allow them to cut their calorie intake fulfilling their dream of losing weight, they are worng !
A good breakfast is a combination of protein, fiber and good carbs. Oatmeal is to me the best food to have for breakfast. They are nutritionnally very rich ! They are loaded with vitamins and minerals, they are also rich in antioxidants, and contain beta-glucan (a type of fiber known for lowering cholesterol levels). While lots of people think it is not the tastiest option, healt benefits have been proven and might help them to change their mind !
