We are in the midst of a Winter “warm-up” here in Minneapolis, aka it’s in the high 20s/low 30s. For some of you in warmer states, that probably sounds a little crazy! But after being in negative temperatures for a few weeks, it feels so nice outside. I think we are jumping back to the super cold temperatures again this weekend, so have to enjoy it while I can.
I have a love-hate relationship with the treadmill and try to still run outside as much as I can during the winter months, and luckily there is some great gear out there that makes that possible. And because we are all dealing with winter weather, I’m sharing the best Winter Running Gear on my list.
1. Cascadia Thermal Jacket
I am OBSESSED with the Cascadia Thermal Jacket from Brooks. They packed a ton of heat into this jacket, and it’s not bulky or thick at all. I have been wearing it as a layer when we go ice fishing too, and I’ve decided that it’s so perfect for any outdoor winter activity. I also love that it comes in white; most of my winter gear is black and I feel like white really stands out in the darkness.
2. Yaktrax Run
Black ice makes me really nervous to run outside during the winter months, and I love that the Yaktrax Run just slip on your shoes and you have the traction you need to stay upright. Even though Minneapolis does an awesome job cleaning off sidewalks, there are some areas with packed snow and any extra grip is definitely worth it.
3. Threshold Tight
I have struggled finding a good running tight that keeps my legs warm, but not too toasty, on those chilly runs. Last year, I had a scary experience when I passed out after a run — and I think it had to do with keeping my legs not warm enough. I have since found the Threshold Tight from Brooks and I love that these have some extra fleece lining to give me a little extra warmth. (Plus, they are on sale at Brooks right now, so you can’t beat that!)
4. Goodr Sunglasses
I started wearing Goodr sunglasses towards the end of last year, and I am obsessed. These sunglasses are only $25 and they offer UV protection and all of the great stuff you need to protect your eyes. The best part? They don’t even move when you run! It can get SO bright here in the winter months, so having some solid sunglasses I can rely on are so important.
5. Tabio Socks
Years ago, I didn’t care about what socks I wore while I ran and once I converted to running socks, I noticed a huge difference! It’s amazing how your feet don’t slide and how much comfortable you are when you run with the right socks. I recently tried out Tabio socks (thanks to Sweat Pink!) and they are amazing. They are actually the most popular sock in Japan, and have recently come to the U.S. I love that they have light compression and some little grippies on the bottom for extra support on the run. Plus, they keep my feet happy, even on colder runs.
P.S. I may have a giveaway coming your way for these on Instagram… head on over and check it out!
