Do you spend copious amounts of time posting and sharing on your Social Media profiles? Would you rather spend that time focusing on more income-producing activities?
I know I do.
Social Media is an integral part to big and small businesses because it gives you the opportunity to reach more of your audience with just a tweet, post and update. Consistently sharing content and connecting with your audience is an effective way to not only build your brand awareness but also reach new potential clients about your product or service.
But with so many social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest… a lot of people just don’t have the time to login to every SM account and post content nor have the funds to hire a social media manager to do so.
This is why I use a social media management tool to help organize all my SM accounts in one location. I can just spend once a week queuing up all the posts that I want to be shared for the next 7 days so I don’t have to waste my time doing it throughout the week.
Ultimate leverage or what? I can build my brand and save time in doing it.
Now I know there are a lot of different SM management tools out there and many marketers will tell you to opt for either Buffer or Hootsuite because these two are pretty much the top dogs.
However today I’d like to review an “underdog” SM tool that I use instead.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve used both Buffer and Hootsuite before and they’re both top-notch but the one deal-breaker for me was this: neither allow scheduled posts on Google+ profiles. Yes they do allow it for Pages, but I don’t run a Google+ Page, I only run a Google+ Profile.
And I couldn’t stand having to schedule all my posts in one go and then having to distribute it individually on Google+ “on the corresponding day”. I set out to find the perfect tool to fit my needs and I found it: Friends+Me.
What Is Friends+Me?
Friends+Me is a social media management tool that allows you to schedule posts and content across a range of SM platforms. The current SM platforms include:
- Facebook Pages
- Facebook Profiles
- Facebook Groups
- Google+ Profile
- Google+ Page
- Google+ Communities
- Google+ Connection
Publish To Google+ Profiles and Communities: Major feature because many SM tools only allow you to schedule content for Google+ pages. You can also easily format your posts with bold and italicise options.
Note: In order to automate publishing of Google+ posts, you must be signed into both the additional Chrome extension and Friends+Me dashboard because of the missing Google API.
Custom Content Scheduling: Friends+Me allows you to create content, save drafts and define specific times and days for every post/content created. When sharing a link you will see a preview of the link under the composed field.
Link Shortener: Very handy in shortening URLs and saving character space especially for Twitter. You can pick from Fpme.link, Goo.gl and Bit.ly (account needed).
Unlimited Number of Reposts & Advanced Hashtag Repost Routing: This is the crux to Friends+Me’s success.
With any connected social profiles, you can choose one to become the “Source” and allow other profiles to share the exact same post either simultaneously or at a scheduled delayed time. For example, if Google+ is your “source”, when you share something there, then Friends+Me will duplicate that post to other profiles. You can designate whether the shared post will link back to your Google+ post or the actual content you’re linking to (like Youtube or your blog).
This saves hours trying to craft posts for every single network. You can start conversations with this powerful re-posting scheduling and it’s all controlled with certain hashtags.
Google Chrome Extension: Another added feature that I really liked about Friends+Me is that they also have a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox and Safari, adding a small icon to your browser. With just a click of a mouse, this allows you to easily share virtually any content you come across while browsing the web to your SM profiles. No need to bookmark for later, just share it (or schedule it) on the spot!
There are 4 pricing plans with Friends+Me and all of them have equal access to all features. The only difference between each is the number of SM accounts you can connect and the number of members you can invite to access your account.
A free account is also available but is limited to only 3 accounts for any social network and zero members.
Yearly payments are also available and include an upfront discount of 2 months free.
When I first opened my account with Friends+Me I was immediately surprised how sophisticated yet simple the interface is to navigate. It’s fairly similar to Buffer in terms of design layout and isn’t cluttered like Hootsuite can be, I like it because there’s no nonsense here, just the essential stuff to get the work done.
It’s easy to create content, schedule and manage exactly where you want to post. For example, you can share the exact same status on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ Profile, but not your LinkedIn Profile.
You can even cross-promote by sharing content across all social networks at once!
Some of the other handy aspects of the dashboard include the Timeline which shows everything you’ve ever posted on your SM account in one place.
The Kick-Ass Awesomeness
- Easy-to-use interface, no steep learning curve
- Easily cross-promote and automate scheduled content to multiple channels at a time*
- Ability to see visual timeline of published and scheduled posts
- Connects to a wide range of social media platforms
- Can have your shares to one network automatically duplicated to other accounts
- Co-workers can be invited to help manage all of or selected accounts
- Customer support is quick to respond (you actually get responses from Alois Bělaška – the founder himself!)
Room For Improvement
- Unable to see updates or newsfeeds from various social media networks
- No social analytics reporting or tracking* Coming Soon
- No RSS, WordPress and Instagram integration
- No mobile application
- Doesn’t allow you to respond, reply or retweet to content
- Videos can’t be uploaded to posts
- *Scheduled posts on Google+ cannot be self-published unless you are logged onto both the dashboard and extension due to missing Google API
Is this for YOU?
Friends+Me is a great tool if you’re active on Google+, want to include Google+ profiles in your social media marketing or want to easily cross-post. It’s definitely got the edge because many other current SM tools do not offer this feature.
Although its major dowmfall is that it lacks social analytics and reporting, a little birdie tells me that it is due to be released early in 2016 – so don’t completely disregard this underdog yet.
If you just need something that will help publish content quick and easy without all the flashy stuff, get Friends+Me and you’ll never have to waste endless hours curating content on social media.
Google indexes all public Google+ posts and is an effecive way to increase your visibility on the internet. It’s a shame that the platform is underutizilied by internet marketers as most prefer to post on their Profiles rather than Pages. I’m glad that Friends+Me has provided a solution to this and has streamlined the content curation process.
Although it lacks as analytics which is essential in knowing how to improve one’s marketing and my laptop always has to be on in order for the scheduled Google+ posts to self-publish, Friends+Me has a lot of potential.
It’s still in its infancy stage and it’s always having new features added. There’s even a Feedback page for customers to suggest ways to improve it, to which they actually reply and take action upon!
With the basic functions and features that it has right now though, I’m very optimistic about Friends+Me’s potential.
