As we make the shift from one year to the next, we reflect, set goals, resolutions and the like. There are those of among us who are contemplating a different Shift.
The shift from employee to entrepreneur, Business owner and all that entails. This is a daunting adventure for most people but there is a brave cohort of individuals who are steely eyed and determined. This concept of shifting and change is difficult of most people who have had ‘a good thing going’ for such a long time. Change is an inconvenience.
Let’s explore this concept of ‘a good thing going’. This simply translate to safe, stability and consistent. These terms on their own are great to execute in your daily life. But it seems as if these terms are being used sometimes as a road block to the change needed to grow. In any role you perform growth has to be as natural as breathing. Those who have become enamoured with the work of being an Entrepreneur are averse to these terms. They are actively seeking change every day, in life and in business. They understand that the more they grow the more value they can add to themselves and their ventures. This is also a part of the fail fast and fail often movement. You may have to find a healthy measure for the growth vs worth in your life.
Here’s a concept I picked in my time, Brian Tracey put it in the best and simplest terms.
Think of yourself as a business, ‘Me Inc.’
At Me Inc. you are the boss of you, the company is your client and they pay for your services in the form a salary. At Me Inc, you can choose your clients in the form of a new job.
Now when we use this concept and apply it to making the shift, from employee to business owner you don’t really have to change what you are doing. The beautiful part is you can change who you do it for.
So with that being said, what kind of goals are you going to set this year?
