Barack Obama delivered a moving speech at the Democratic convention, in which he said that Hillary Clinton is the best suited candidate to take over from him. The US president said that Hillary Clinton will make a better president than him.
“There has never been a man or woman, not me, not Bill, nobody more qualified than Hillary” to be president.
When the crowd started to boo at the mention of Donald Trump’s name, President Barack Obama asked them not to just boo but also vote.
Mr Trump responded by rejecting the president’s portrayal of optimism.
“Our country does not feel ‘great already’ to the millions of wonderful people living in poverty, violence and despair,” he said on Twitter.
But Obama defended his legacy, saying that the president will leave office having made America better than he found it.
For the Democrats to win, they have to show that Obama presidency was a success. That is the best way they can get the voters to believe in them and produce another president from the party.
You can Trust Clinton
Mr Obama extolled Mrs Clinton’s character, calling her a “leader with real plans to break down barriers, blast through glass ceilings and widen the circle of opportunity to every single American”.
“She’s been there for us, even if we haven’t always noticed,” he said.
Mr Obama described his nation as “full of courage”, “decent and generous”, but also concerned about racial divisions and “frustrated with political gridlock”.
He said: “Tonight, I ask you to do for Hillary Clinton what you did for me. I ask you to carry her the same way you carried me.”
Donald Trump Attacked
Earlier on, Tim Kaine did not shy away from asking the voters to be cautious of Donald Trump. After accepting the nomination to be Hillary’s running mate, Mr. Kaine said that he did not believe anything that Donald Trump said.
“Folks, you cannot believe one word that comes out of Donald Trump’s mouth,” he said.
The crowded immediately responded, chanting “Not one word!”
Hillary Clinton is expected to accept the nomination on Thursday when the Democratic Convention comes to an end.
