Turkey-EU meeting to focus on Migrant crisis

EU and Turkish leaders have convened for an emergency Meeting in Brussels so as to deal with one of the worst cases of refugees ever since World War II ended. The counties are having one of their worst Migrant crisis cases.

In a move to motivate Turkey so that it can return housing of the Migrants and also control the flow of the migrants, EU has pledged to give $3.3bn.

Over 1 million migrants illegally found their way into the EU via a boat and they were mostly travelling from Turkey to Greece.

European states have resolved to restrict entry and thus leaving about 13,000 of them stranded at the Greece-Macedonia border.

Most of the migrants are as a result of the Syrian war and they make dangerous journeys so as to flee from the war as far as they can. Others are migrating due to economic issues in their countries.

On Sunday, a boat that was carrying the migrants capsized off Turkey and in the process killing 25 people.

EU has had divisions within itself on how the matter can be handled with the latest state of the matter indicating that Germany and Sweden are more open to refugees.

The promise of Turkey

Dutch PM Mark Rutte and German Chancellor Merkel Angela held a meeting with their Turkidh counterpart, Davutoglu Ahmet on Sunday as a preparation for the summit. The meeting took place in Brussels at the Turkish embassy.

It is expected that 28 European Union states will request Turkey to accept the refugees that will not have met the asylum requirements.

Last week, the president of the EU council Donald Tusk stated that Turkey president Tayyip Recep had agreed that his country would accept all the migrants that will be apprehended in Turkish waters.

Reports provided on Sunday indicated that Macedonia was no longer allowing anyone coming from Syria and Iraq to enter if they came from a place that they did not view it as being an active conflict zone.
