It’s now official! Apple also wants to make a name for itself within the self-driven cars industry. The company formalized its decision to step into a field that has in recent times witnessed fierce battle for domination.
Apple has received a permit from the California Department of Motor Vehicles to conduct tests of the self-driven cars on public roads.
The entire 2015 Lexus RX 450h hybrid SUVs are covered by the permit. Additionally, a person has to be in the self-driven vehicles to be in charge in the event something wrong happens.
Apple has over the past years made it clear that it wants to fully invest in the self-driven cars. Just like other enthusiasts like Google, Tesla, Ford, Volkswagen, GMW and General Motors, the firm believes that it will go a long way in easing congestion and eradicating accidents caused by human error.
Machine Learning
Some key areas that Apple is making a key investment include autonomous systems as well as machine learning. These are technologies that will have lots of applications in the future transportation systems.
Former Ford Motor executive, Steve Kenner, now works at Apple as the director of product integrity. He notified federal regulators concerning the firm’s intentions to develop self-driven cars through a letter, a notification immediately followed by Apple’s statement of acknowledgement.
The new market could be lucrative for major tech firms no wonder they view it as a ‘gold rush’. Apple having established strong rooting in the mainstay PCs, tablets and phones, it is also keen to have an edge here. The battle has just began and soon will know the giants…
