Towards the end of March, Whatsapp rolled out an update to its popular messaging app and many people quickly jumped to it. But the update has been met with a lot of criticism as it brings adverse changes to how WhatsApp Old Status Feature looked like.
In case you are still in the dark and don’t know why there is so much fuss in the internet, the new update does away with the text status. As a replacement, users are now able to share GIFS, videos emojis and photos as status. It borrows a leaf from Instagram and Snapchat Stories feature and the content disappears after 24 hours.
The new layout has been designed in such a manner that you cannot only easily share status but also view what your friends are doing.
The upfront now comes with additional tabs including one swipe to the camera tab. Even though these changes are interesting, many users have not taken them kindly. We have lived to associate WhatsApp with simplicity – our everyday chatting platform to remain connected to our friends and thus the update crosses this line for most users.
Ever since the update was released into the market, it has been harshly trolled on social media platforms. A quick browse through Twitter tells you that people are both angered by the new update and also displeased that the text-based status has been killed.
An incomplete Feature
Keenly analyzing the WhatsApp Status tells you that it is not complete. You cannot comment on a status neither can you comment on it. If you so choose to reply to your friend’s status, it takes you to their chat and the tab becomes pointless. Privacy concerns have also been raised because once the status is set that’s it. These are just a needle in the sack issues that many have pointed out.
The Facebook-owned platform have themselves come in the open to acknowledge that they may have missed it out this time round. WhatsApp announced that the Status Feature was unsuccessful and promised to bring back the old text-based status.
This does not imply that you will be taken back to your customary WhatsApp but instead the two will be made to peacefully co-exist. Testing is still underway and you should expect it in your phones anytime soon.
WhatsApp Old Status Feature to return!
Leaks by the Twitter-based WaBetaInfo suggest that once again there will be a complete overhaul of your favorite texting App. There will be additional features added to the ‘Info’ button, one of which will be the text Status. There will also be other tabs such as Tagline and Profile. Whereas none of these have been officially confirmed, WaBetaInfo is known to provide reliable leaks.
Do you hate it when you accidentally send a message but want the recipient not to read it? Well, WhatsApp is working on “Unsent feature” that will help you retrieve this message so that the recipient doesn’t read it. The ability to revoke will still stand even if the message has already been delivered. The manner in which this feature will work is yet to be known but WhatsApp is making a complete overhaul of itself and we cannot say we are displeased!
