If Serena Williams beats her sister, she will regain the world number one status

Having successfully gone through the semi finals in Melbourne, the American sisters, Serena and Venus Williams will meet for the ninth time in a Grand Slam final.

Thirteenth seed Venus scored against fellow American Coco Vandeweghe 6-7 (3-7) 6-2 6-3 so as to qualify for the finals since 2009.

The world number two Serena beat unseeded Croat Mirjana Lucic-Baroni 6-2 6-1 for the qualifier.

If Serena Williams wins against her sister, she will regain the world number one status.

The last time the two met was in Wimbledon 2009, a match that Serena carried the day.

Venus had nothing but praise for her sister after qualifying for the finals. She said that watching Serena play tennis is unbelievable adding that she is a worthwhile competitor.

Venus added that playing against Serena on the opposite side of the net will be a dream.

I equal measure, Serena was largely positive about Venus. “I am really proud of Venus – she is a total inspiration.” The world number two said that its their dream to play against each other in a final.

“She is my toughest opponent, no-one has ever beaten me as much as Venus.”

Serena added that at the end of the match, it is a Williams that will win the tournament.

As the two gear for the Saturday Australia Open finals, the siblings have numerous lessons for the female executives.

Even after having both concurrently contested for the coveted number one rank, the two superstars have managed to keep off rivalry. Serena has even gone ahead to publicly declare she is proud of Venus and that she is an inspiration.

Venus also shares in her sister’s sentiments, saying the match won’t be an easy one and that they will surely faceoff each other.

Some sports analysts believe that the two have enjoyed mutual success as a result of the respect they have for each other. They are not only supportive to each other but also acknowledge the opponent’s skills.

That basically underscores the need for women to have each other’s back.
