How Families Can Get Through Winter 2022

It is understandable if you are looking at the cost of Living Crisis and inflation stories in the news right now and worrying about the Winter, especially if you have kids to feed and keep happy as well. Winter could be a bleak time for many, but there are things that you can do to offset the increase in prices and earn a little extra that should help.

The Cost of Living Crisis

First, it is important to be aware of the situation. Households are seeing their Energy, fuel and grocery bills soar with inflation, the energy price cap increase and rising cost of fuel all putting a strain on household finances. It is said that things will get worse this winter and many will be wondering how they will manage to heat their homes and put food on the table.

Sell Your Car to Raise Funds

One option that is worth considering heading into winter is to sell your car to raise funds. Many will be able to manage without a car due to the rise of remote work, but if you still require a vehicle then you could downsize to a small leased car as an alternative. Leasing is smart financially because the costs can be easier to manage, it is often cheaper than buying and you do not have to worry about depreciation.

Adapt Healthy Living Activities

It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout the cost of living crisis, but this can be costly. Therefore, you may need to make adaptations such as replacing gym memberships, yoga classes etc with home workouts or free activities like jogging/cycling. Additionally, you can make savings on your grocery bill by cooking meals from scratch, buying non-brand products, shopping at cheaper supermarkets and even growing your own fruit and veg.

Layer Up

One of the biggest concerns heading into winter will be the cost of energy. Obviously, winter is a time when people use more energy to keep their homes warm but this could be a challenge this winter with the scary energy price cap predictions. You can reduce the amount of energy that you use this winter by wearing more layers at home, using an electric blanket and by using hot water bottles.

Many parents will be worried about winter this year and how they will manage with the rising cost of fuel, energy and food. Households will feel the squeeze over the winter, but there are always things that you can do to improve your situation and hopefully manage over the winter months without having to suffer. As a parent you will always want to provide a happy, healthy and comfortable lifestyle, so you might have to make some changes over the next few months to provide this for your kids.
