How Can You Improve Businesses Security

There are many challenges you will face when running a small Business; however, Security issues are perhaps the most severe. After all, whether unauthorized personnel enter your business or a cyber security attack occurs, a loss of income is sure to follow. Whatsmore, if sensitive data or information is leaked/stolen, as a business owner, you could be facing serious legal consequences.

With that in mind, here are some simple ways in which you can improve your business security!

  • Utilize video intercoms. Using office video intercoms is a great way to improve security practices at your business premises, due to the fact it improves access control. For example, it allows for secure visitor management, as you can control who enters the building and when. This reduces the chances of unauthorised personnel making their way onto site or into secure areas.
  • Use strong passwords. Many people believe that cybersecurity hacks are complex affairs that you cannot prevent. However, more often than not, they are caused by poor password control, meaning they’re entirely preventable. In fact, a recent study found that 81% of company data breaches are due to poor passwords. As a result, you must ensure you choose strong passwords for all of your accounts, and that you change them regularly.
  • Provide employees with security training. There are many different factors you must include in your employee training plans, but it’s important that you do not forget about security procedures. For example, employees must be taught about the importance of using safes to store money overnight, or ensuring all doors/windows and access points are locked at the end of the day. You should also ensure they’re aware of good cybersecurity practices, especially if they are working from home.
  • Install security software onto all devices. Another way in which you can protect your business from cybersecurity attacks is by ensuring that you install security software onto all devices. While there are many free cybersecurity programs and tools for you to consider, this should also be an area that you are willing to invest in. After all, failure to have the proper preventive measures in place could only lead to financial problems further down the line, especially if sensitive information such as customer banking details are leaked, and you’re met with a lawsuit.
  • Don’t forget about security cameras. Since becoming commercially available in 1949, CCTV cameras have revolutionised building safety. While previously the images they captured were a little blurry, they are now much more accurate and clear. As a result, their installation works as an excellent deterrent to crime – as any offenders who spot them know the business is not only well-protected but also that their chances of being caught (and prosecuted) are much higher. When installing security cameras, you may also want to install alarm systems which are triggered if a person enters the building outside of working hours. This will not only notify you (the business owner) when a breach has occurred but also the relevant authorities who can intervene.
