Planet Hollywood Beach Resort, Goa

Goa is known as India’s Little Sunshine state. Coastal Goa is the go-to destinations for local and international visitors looking to have a good time. With a beautiful coastline, sun, seafood and unique blend of Portuguese and Indian culture, Goa is progressive and there’s nowhere in India quite like it. We recently spent a few days exploring Goa. During our time here, we stayed at the Planet Hollywood Beach Resort Goa.     The Hotel One of the main reason why we picked Planet Hollywood is that we had never stayed in one before. Since it was the low-peak monsoon season, the nightly rate was quite reasonable. The Planet Hollywood Beach Resort is located in Salcette, North Goa,  30-minute drive from the airport. The resort is situated right on the quiet and private Uttorda Beach.  Planet Hollywood is only sharing the beach with a small handful of other accommodations, which means you get plenty of space and privacy here. The property itself is huge and spacious and full of interesting amenities and Hollywood memorabilia. Boasting facilities such as gymnasium, a large pool, seaside cabanas, spa, hairdressers, 2 bars, 2 restaurants and a cigar lounge – there are plenty of things to do here for guests of all ages. The most impressive facility in this property is the massive swimming pool. Not only that, the pool also comes with a jacuzzi and a separate children’s pool.  Since it was quiet, we had a great time enjoying the pool and other amenities.   The garden area surrounding the pool leading towards the beach is also beautifully kept and maintained. The garden consists of children playground, yoga area, sitting area and a flower garden. The private beach is beautiful, clean, with white sand and an amazing view of the Arabian Sea Overall, the Planet Hollywood is a well maintained, beautiful hotel with plenty of things to see and do. We can just imagine how explosive this resort would be at the height of summer season. Checking in was a breeze although we would appreciate if the concierge would take the time to explain to us the amenities that come with the room. Sure the concierge was pleasant enough, but the service feels rather complacent. We ended up having to ring them a few times asking questions like “what’s our wifi details?” and “what time does breakfast starts and finish? and where?”. We literally had to check our booking confirmation to see if we are entitled to free breakfast because it was not mentioned to us during check-in. The room comes with daily breakfast and wifi. The wifi had a good connection. The daily breakfast spread included both Indian and continental spread. We were a little disappointed that there was no Goan breakfast food served as part of breakfast spread. That said, the breakfast had a decent selection and tasted good.  We were stoked to see items such as dim sum, iced coffees, and sandwiches offered as part of breakfast. We were in India for 2 weeks by then and was happy to see a variety of different dishes apart from Indian food. The kitchen team was also kind enough to come over to speak to us to ask for our feedback.     The Room Source: Booking.com We stayed in the Superior Room with a Garden View. At 30 m²,  the room is beautifully themed, decorated and jam-packed full of amenities. The room was very clean, it has such bling and poshness. The Hollywood themed rooms are definitely a welcoming change as opposed to the normal hotel set up.  There are two impressive features in the room; first is the big beautiful bathroom with spacious shower, fantastic toiletries and super awesome hair dryer (a welcoming change to some of the crappy ones we had at previous hotels). The water pressure was also great. Secondly, all the rooms in Planet Hollywood come with… wait for it…. a foot-ankle-calf massager! Ida literally refused to get out of the room as all she wanted to do was to sit on the massager and watch TV. It is definitely a brownie point for this hotel especially when you come back to the hotel after a whole day of walking. On top of that, the outdoor seating area is also pleasant for relaxation, a cup of tea and a book. The only issue we have with the room is the bedding. Well, the bed itself is great but we could not get used to the satin pillow, sheet, and blanket. Sleeping with satin material was quite uncomfortable for us, especially since we are not used to it. But if you are a fan of satin sheet, you are winning here. The turndown service was great, the turndown service staff were friendly and took the time to introduce themselves to us and to continuously check if we needed anything.     The Location The Planet Hollywood Beach resort is located in Salcette, North Goa. Okay, so if you would just like to stay in the resort and not venture much outside of the hotel, then Planet Hollywood would do the job well. however, if you want to be near all the actions are – then Salcette is far away from the action. It takes approximately 1 hour (more during peak seasons) to go to Baga Beach, at least 45 minutes to get to Panaji and 25 minutes to get to Margao. There isn’t much going on within the hotel’s walking distance. That said, Zeebop Seafood Restaurant is just around the corner from the hotel if you want some freshly cooked seafood. Followed by Martin’s Corner which serves both Goan and Indian food. If you want to be where the action is, you are best staying around Candolim, Panaji or Calangute.     Prices We paid $140 per night for our room for 2 nights stay. At a face value, it is quite reasonable considering that Goa is a tourist town and Planet Hollywood is a great hotel. That said, it cost us an...
