Tiny House Chores

Living in a “normal size house” comes with a fairly daunting list of things to do each day as well as each week and even seasonally. Just because you live in a Tiny House on wheels doesn’t mean those responsibilities don’t exist though. They just tend to exist on a small scale. For instance, dusting may not take more than 5 or 6 minutes if you only have 4-5 shelves, a few scattered frames, and maybe a handful of knick-knacks in your whole house! A tiny house does come with a few unique daily chores though that may not exist in a “normal size house”. Most normal size houses don’t come with a compost toilet so stirring the solid matter may not be something the Jones’ have to do each day. The following tips and suggestions may help you develop great habits for keeping your home spic and span every day.

PICK UP CLOTHES AND PLACE THEM IN LAUNDRY BASKET

This does more than keep you from looking like a slob. If clothes (or towels) have any moisture on them they can soil the floor, do potential damage to surfaces like hardwood or even vinyl planks, or get other surfaces wet (if you lay a soiled towel on your bed).

WIPE DOWN SURFACES

Take a warm rag or even a Lysol Wipe and wipe down the bathroom sink, kitchen sink, and countertop, so that toothpaste doesn’t glob up, food particles don’t harden onto the sink, etc.

PREP FOR MEALS

It may sound odd but preparing for meals may save you a few integral minutes at the end of the day come dinner time. This may be as simple as taking meat out to thaw during the day or even cutting vegetables for a dinner sautée.

SORT THE MAIL AND THROW OUT JUNK

Most Americans come home, grab the mail, and kind of throw it onto a countertop or a desk or something similar. It stays there for some time or until it is remembered. Use a minute or two each night to sort the mail and throw out any of it you may not need in any way.

PUT THINGS AWAY

You are already dealing with less space than most people. Why allow it to get cluttered thereby making your space seem that much smaller? Take a few minutes each day to put things back in their proper place. It will ease clutter anxiety and keep your home tidy.

TAKE OUT TRASH

This can take several moments because of needing to sort recyclables, etc. But getting rid of smelly trash (especially food product), extra paper product, food and drink cans, etc. can rid your home of foul smells as well as contribute to the tidiness.

Does this list sound familiar? Are these things you do on a daily basis? How might your own days be enhanced by a solid chore schedule? Let us know in the comments below. Be sure to follow us on both Facebook and Instagram as well.
