‘Oceans 8’ to Set Franchise Box Office Record with $42M Opening Weekend

It seems like we’ve been waiting for ages for ‘Ocean’s 8’ to hit theaters.

The Film is projected to earn the No. 1 spot at the box office this weekend and looks to be the most successful Opening of the ‘Ocean’s’ franchise.

via Complex:

Deadline reports Ocean’s 8 is expected to have a record opening for the franchise as it’s slated to bring in $42 million. If it happens, it would beat the early 2000s trilogy, which had its best opening with 2004’s Ocean’s Twelve at $39.1 million.

It’s already ahead of the rest of the Ocean’s films for its Friday sales. Ocean’s 8 brought in $15.9 million on its opening day topping the George Clooney–led Ocean’s Twelve, which earned $14.7 million. Ocean’s Eleven followed behind with $13.3 million while Ocean’s Thirteen is in the last place with $13.1 million.

The film’s success isn’t much of a surprise though. With an all-star ensemble cast of Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, and Helena Bonham Carter, it seemed guaranteed to bring in a crowd.

As Deadline reported, women showed up for the film as well—69% of the audience were women. This outnumbered the Ocean’s sequels given only 55% of the audiences were women.

Similar to previous films in the Ocean’s franchise, which started with the 1960 Rat Pack film, Ocean’s 11, the team gets together for an elaborate heist. In Ocean’s 8, it’s George Clooney’s Danny Ocean’s sister, Debbie Ocean (played by Bullock), who’s leading the team of women who will infiltrate the Met Gala and steal pricey jewels.

Have you seen it yet?
