Is Your Health Driving You Crazy? Could This Mutated Gene be a Factor?

Should mutated genes be a health concern?

Genetic research might provide some answers to those who suffer from certain Health issues. MTHFR is a gene that can vary in its DNA code and when it becomes mutated it could affect your health. It’s responsible for making the MTHFR enzyme which helps the body in the methylation process. Is this Mutated Gene a health concern?

Dr. Amy Myers explains, “Methylation protects your body by repairing damaged cells, optimizing DNA cell function, processing toxins and hormones, metabolizing B vitamins, and regulating neurotransmitters.”

There are two variants of MTHFR, called C677T and A1298C. These mutations have been linked to autoimmune disorders.

A few issues that might be related to abnormalities in the MTHFR gene include:

  • Autoimmune
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Hormones
  • Thyroid
  • Inability to detoxify
  • Problems with pregnancies

Can I be tested?

A doctor can request a lab test to check for mutations. The test may include the MTHFR DNA Testing, known as Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase Mutations, C677T and A1298C. Be aware that some insurance companies may not cover the test as it could be considered experimental, even with the many scientific studies regarding MTHFR mutations in genetic research.

What is treatment:

Always see a medical professional who can help guide you to the best possible course of action.

They may prescribe supplementation of B-12 and folate or discuss other sources or dietary needs.
