As most of us know, Jupiter is the largest planet in our Solar System. But what many of us don’t know, is that Jupiter is the guardian planet of our planet – the Earth.
Jupiter is about 300 times more massive then Earth. It is called the gas giant planet. The surface of Jupiter is made up of a thick layer of hydrogen gas. Under the gas, the pressure becomes so intense that the hydrogen turns into liquid and then finally into a metal. Under the Hydrogen is a rocky core that is about the size of Planet Earth.
Now, the question is: how is Jupiter a guardian to the planet Earth?
Jupiter mass is so powerful, which makes its gravity field huge. It is said that Jupiter acts like a gigantic vacuum cleaner, sucking in comets, asteroids and cosmic debris in the solar system. If Jupiter didn’t exist, the Earth would suffer from asteroid collisions everyday.
Fortunately, this mysterious giant travels in almost a perfect orbit to guard our planet Earth from collisions.
