Compassion, Kindness and Love – One Conversation

I apologize for my lack of posts lately. With the end of the School year coming to a close I have been very busy and very engaged in the lives of my students. Today I wanted to write about something that is a bit more personal to me. I want to write about people.

I Love people. I care about people. I am emotionally invested in the well-being of others. I want people to have a good day and when I am having a bad day I want people to help pick me back up. I guess I am kind of an old soul. The old African proverb goes that “It takes a village to raise a child.” I believe it takes a village to do a lot more than that and together we can accomplish anything. The moon landing, advances in science and archaeology and our communities are a reflection of this.

Because I become emotionally invested in all of the people I meet I tend to suffer from some anxiety and insecurity. I worry sometimes that I am not doing enough to be there for the people I love. I am sad to see when I am not accepted or respected. Nobody truly wants to be lonely, right?

We have to stop being such a judgmental society. What does it take to get to know people? What does it take to sit down and learn about the passions, problems, and lives of another individual. In my three years at my school I have met a lot of wonderful people and even a few not so wonderful people. Regardless of my distaste for any one individual if any of those people asked for a favor I would not hesitate to jump and help them or be there for them in a time of need.

All I can say is my life is an open book, my classroom is an open door, and I will always look out for a persons best interest long after they turn their back on me, and long after they deceive me. I want people to share when they are upset with me. I am a man! I am not perfect. I cannot change if you do not enlighten me. I need my village to help me and I will continue to serve my village.

Here’s the final note: Be kind to others. Don’t judge before you get to know them. Accept them as they are, not as you wish they were. Show Compassion, kindness, and love. Something this world is lacking in significantly and something that should be expected from those who claim to be people of faith.
